Job Description
Kforce has a client in West Springfield, MA that is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to support and optimize enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments. This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days onsite per week at the company's Springfield headquarters. Target Salary for this role is $130K once converted to an FTE, after the initial contract term.
Summary:
The Database Administrator will be responsible for the performance, availability, security, and reliability of enterprise database environments across primarily on-premises systems, with some cloud exposure. This person will work closely with infrastructure, development, security, analytics, and DevOps teams to support production systems, improve database operations, and contribute to automation and modernization initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer, monitor, and support Microsoft SQL Server environments
- Ensure database availability, reliability, performance, and scalability
- Manage backups, restores, disaster recovery, replication, and high-availability processes
- Perform performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and capacity planning
- Support SQL Server patching, upgrades, migrations, and production deployments
- Manage database security, permissions, access controls, and compliance requirements
- Troubleshoot database performance, connectivity, and production issues
- Partner with application and development teams on schema changes, deployments, and production readiness
- Develop automation for monitoring, maintenance, alerting, and operational processes
- Support database modernization and cloud initiatives as the environment evolves
- Participate in on-call support and production incident resolution
- Maintain database documentation, standards, and operational procedures
- Collaborate with infrastructure, network, security, development, analytics, and vendor teams
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred
- Strong hands-on experience as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA supporting enterprise environments
- Experience with SQL Server replication, monitoring, high availability, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery
- Experience with database security, permissions, access controls, and compliance best practices
- Hands-on experience with SQL Server patching, upgrades, migrations, and production support
- Experience with automation, scripting, and operational process improvement
- Strong knowledge of database performance tuning, indexing, query optimization, architecture, and design
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to troubleshoot complex database, performance, connectivity, and production issues
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a production environment
- Ability to work hybrid 3X per week in Springfield, MA
- Experience with PowerShell, T-SQL, SQL Agent, or similar automation tools
- Experience automating monitoring, alerting, maintenance, backup validation, patching, or deployment processes
- Azure SQL, Azure database services, or broader cloud database experience
- Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, or database deployment automation
- Experience with database migrations and modernization initiatives
- Microsoft SQL Server, Azure, or related database certifications
- Microsoft Fabric, Terraform, or Infrastructure as Code exposure is a plus
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
