SQL Database Administrator
Dallas, TX Area | Remote (Must Live Within 100 Miles of Dallas – No Exceptions) | 12+ Month Contract
iSphere is looking for a SQL Database Administrator who understands that databases are a lot like plumbing. Nobody notices them when everything works, but the second something breaks, everybody suddenly knows your name.
This role supports a large enterprise environment with a mix of SQL Server databases, business intelligence platforms, ETL processes, reporting solutions, and mission-critical business applications. The team needs somebody who can keep systems running smoothly, troubleshoot issues before users notice them, and support both operational and development teams without creating unnecessary drama every time a deployment is scheduled.
The work includes database administration, ETL support, reporting, performance monitoring, security administration, backup and recovery, and supporting business-critical applications built on the Microsoft data platform.
What they're really looking for:
• 8+ years of SQL Server database administration experience
• Strong Microsoft SQL Server experience across production, development, test, and UAT environments
• Experience with the Microsoft BI stack including SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS
• Experience supporting ETL processes and SQL-based data integration solutions
• Strong Transact-SQL development skills including stored procedures, views, functions, and triggers
• Experience with database backup, recovery, maintenance, and performance monitoring
• Experience implementing database security and access controls
• Ability to troubleshoot production issues and support critical applications
Experience with Power BI, QlikView, data warehousing, document management platforms, or large enterprise reporting environments is a strong plus.
This role will work closely with application teams, developers, business users, and infrastructure groups to support database operations, reporting solutions, ETL workflows, and ongoing platform improvements.
The team is looking for somebody who enjoys solving problems, pays attention to details, and can balance operational support with longer-term improvements. Someone who can explain database issues in plain English when needed and knows the difference between a real emergency and a user who accidentally filtered out all their report data.
There is also an on-call support component to the role, so they're looking for someone comfortable supporting production environments where uptime matters and "we'll look at it Monday" isn't always an option.
