The Squash Director Opportunity: Squash Haven seeks an experienced, enthusiastic, and hardworking coach to build and grow an already very successful program. The Director will join a veteran senior staff that brings a combined 35 years of experience to the organization. Squash Haven has a very strong squash program in the Squash and Education Alliance (SEA), with 40% of team members going on to play college squash. Access to Yale\u2019s world-class facility, collaboration with the Yale teams, and enthusiastic kids and staff make this a very desirable professional opportunity. Squash Haven is a youth development program that uses the sport of squash, in combination with academic tutoring, literacy development, fitness education, community service, college access, and career development to empower and make a lasting difference in the lives of New Haven young people. Founded in 2006, Squash Haven has grown from one staff member and 20 kids to an inspiring community of 175 students in 5th grade through college graduates, as well as a full-time staff of seven. Squash Director Key Responsibilities: Program Development and Management \u25cf Lead fun, high-energy, and well-planned daily squash sessions during after-school hours and weekends for 135 students in grades 5 through 12 \u25cf Develop long-term squash and fitness training plans which will inform daily lessons/practices \u25cf Run 5 weeks of intensive summer squash program and coordinate additional summer camp and training opportunities \u25cf Provide additional training and competitive opportunities that support the development of our most dedicated and high-achieving players \u25cf Develop competitive schedule and selection criteria for participation in Fairwest League, Squash and Education Alliance (SEA), and US Squash \u25cf Oversee US Squash memberships \u25cf Represent Squash Haven to the broader squash community, actively working to further connections between the program, Squash Haven students, junior players, and families Budget, Facility and Equipment Management \u25cf Manage squash program budget, including: equipment, travel, meals, and tournament entries \u25cf Ensure squash and fitness spaces are organized, clean, and inspiring \u25cf Manage squash equipment and uniforms for all program participants \u25cf Coordinate court access with Yale liaison \u25cf Collaborate with Yale coaching staff as needed Staff and Volunteer Management \u25cf Supervise Assistant Squash Director, part-time coaches, and all squash volunteers \u25cf Conduct weekly check ins and regular performance evaluations \u25cf Schedule staff to ensure adequate coverage for all programs and events \u25cf Ensure proper onboarding of squash volunteers including background checks and training Youth Development \u25cf Build caring, supportive, and meaningful relationships with students and families that prioritize student well-being \u25cf Understand and appreciate the balance between the leadership of a competitive squash program and the broader youth development program that prioritizes education, teamwork, and personal development Additional Responsibilities \u25cf Maintain outstanding data integrity (Salesforce) for all aspects of the squash program, including daily attendance, squash participation, and volunteer contacts \u25cf Lead participant recruitment effort within partner schools and the broader community, leading to a strong enrollment pipeline \u25cf Collaborate on and participate in additional program-wide activities \u25cf Communicate promptly and effectively (written and verbal) with all Squash Haven stakeholders, including students, families, staff, volunteers, and donors School Year Schedule (Sept \u2013 mid-June): During the typical school year, the Director should plan to be on court weekdays from 2:30 until 7 pm. During peak periods of the year, the Director will work, on average, two weekends a month, and will do a considerable amount of driving and travel to matches and tournaments. In addition, the Director will have office and program responsibilities. Summer Schedule (mid-June \u2013 Aug): The summer work day begins at approximately 9 am and ends at 5 pm. There is little to no weekend work when school is out from the end of June through August. Vacation: The position includes 6 weeks of vacation annually: 1 in November, 1 in December, 1 in March, and 3 in the summer. Some but not all national holidays are off. Commitment: Expectation of a minimum three-year commitment, contingent on successful assumption of responsibilities and positive performance reviews Compensation: $65,000-$80,000 commensurate with experience.
