Position Summary:

The Sr. Accountant is responsible for performing the basic accounting functions of the mill, as well as conducting budget, financial, and production analyses. Other responsibilities include recording, reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and analyzing financial results for profit or loss and investment.

PCA has 8 mills. PCA Mills manufactures containerboard consisting of a variety of performance and specialty grades.

Principle Accountabilities:

Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including the preparation of estimates and accruals.

  • Ensure the integrity of accounting records for completeness.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance with accepted accounting policies and principles.
  • Perform accounts receivable, accounts payable, credit and collection duties.
  • Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits & implement recommended changes.
  • Prepare other analyses as requested by mill, division, and corporate management.
  • Prepare year-end 1099s.
  • Manage mill ISO Quality System and maintain compliance with ISO Quality Systems
  • Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice.
  • Comply with financial policies and procedures including compliance with PCA's SOX 404 Key Controls.
  • Provide information that will help the plant increase revenue and improve profitability.
  • Respond to specific requests from management team.
  • Assist in the development and installation of accounting systems, methods, procedures, and controls.
  • Know and follow policies and procedures of the company, share information that would benefit other members of the team, and find ways to improve the delivery of services to our customers.

Decision Making:

Senior Accountant:

  • Under general supervision, the Senior Accountant is expected to resolve problems and deviations in accordance with instructions, policies, and accepted practices. Handle moderately complex objectives but may escalate unresolved issues or questions to the .

Interactions:

Internally, the Sr. Accountant is expected to proactively develop and maintain effective working relationships with mill employees, management, and corporate accounting to achieve objectives and complete job responsibilities. Externally, the Accountant may work directly with vendors and customers. As a company representative, the Senior Accountant must exercise discretion realizing that interactions with vendors and customers must be in accordance with PCA policies and ethics.

Position Requirements:

Education equivalent to bachelor's degree is required with a concentration or major in accounting or finance preferred.

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) is a plus.

Previous experience in the manufacturing sector, containerboard, and corrugated packaging industry preferred.Experience using computer systems including Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.Broad understanding of accounting principles, theories, concepts, and practices.Ability to work well under pressure and within time constraints, multi-task, and build sound relationships with both internal and external customers.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple requests simultaneously.Ability to exhibit excellent communication, analytical, organizational, computer, and advocacy skills.Strong planning and follow up skills.Previous work experience as a member of a team, or a strong understanding of the importance of open communication and information sharing between team members.

Senior Accountant:

  • Five (5) years of work experience in a business office/accounting function.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, theories, concepts, and practices.

  • Starting salary range for position: $78,000-$98,000.
  • Paid Vacation: 3 weeks per calendar year. Pro-rata Vacation during the initial year of hire based upon start date within the calendar year.
  • Paid Holidays.
  • Within the first 30 days of employment, an employee (and their dependents) is eligible to enroll in certain benefit coverages -- medical, dental, and vision - and are automatically enrolled in life, AD&D, and disability coverages.
  • Upon hire, an employee is automatically enrolled in the 401k plan. The plan offers both pre-tax and Roth contribution options along with employer provided matching contributions.
