Sr. Accountant

The Talent Shop is seeking a Senior Accountant for an organization with grant-funded programs. This role leads accounting and recordkeeping activities, including accounts payable and receivable, and helps train and oversee staff who perform accounting functions.

What you’ll do

• Lead the monthly close and prepare financial statements, variance analyses, and other reports.
• Review bank reconciliations and reconcile balance sheet accounts and fixed assets.
• Prepare payroll allocations related to grant activities and post journal entries.
• Review contracts, payroll items, program requisitions, and documentation requested by outside auditors.
• Review loan packages and funding requests; track available balances across accounting and HUD systems and verify expense eligibility.
• Collaborate with internal teams on project cost reconciliations and support internal and external customers.
• Help train accounting staff and support other general ledger activities as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience applying accounting principles to financial reporting and reconciliations.
• At least one year of nonprofit or governmental accounting experience.
• Sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work across teams.
• A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field, with two years of grant management experience preferred; or
• An associate’s degree in Business Administration or a related field, with four years of grant management experience preferred.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• Microsoft Excel proficiency is strongly preferred.

Residency requirement: The person hired must establish residency within the City of Buffalo within 90 days of starting and maintain it throughout employment.
