Join Our Team as a Senior Accountant!
The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing complex accounting and financial activities, including account analysis, month-end close, financial reporting, journal entry review, account reconciliations, and payroll support. This position partners closely with Accounting and Finance leadership while collaborating across the organization to support business operations and strategic initiatives.
A key focus of this role is supporting SPP’s growing Market+ initiatives. The Senior Accountant will help implement financial system integrations, process weekly Market+ transactions, support SOC1 control activities, maintain customer and general ledger structures, prepare customer invoicing, and ensure the accuracy of market-related financial data and reporting.
This position offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on organizational success while working with stakeholders across the company in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
What You'll Do
- Perform detailed analytical reviews of general ledger accounts and financial statements.
- Review and approve accounting, payroll, and financial transactions prepared by staff accountants and payroll analysts.
- Perform month-end close activities, including account reconciliations and financial analysis.
- Support annual financial audits and benefit plan audits.
- Assist with quarterly and annual financial reporting requirements for regulatory agencies and lending institutions.
- Produce internal financial reporting and provide variance analysis and business insights.
- Participate in the development, implementation, and documentation of accounting processes and procedures.
- Collaborate with departments across the organization on corporate initiatives and projects.
- Provide financial analysis and support for special projects and ad hoc assignments.
To be successful in the role we're looking for:
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or business-related field or 2 years relevant experience above experience requirements.
Experience Requirements:
- Five (5) years of job-related experience in accounting processes and transactions as listed above.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word in performing and preparing financial analysis, financial statements and reports, process documentation, proposals, recommendations, and presentations to management.
- Understanding of accounting and/or payroll practices where applicable to ensure compliance with standards
- Work independently on assignments with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively within a team environment
- Strong analytical and inquiry skills, with the ability to exercise an appropriate degree of professional skepticism
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
- Understanding of and compliance with SPP Policies and Procedures
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree or certification in an accounting or finance related area (e.g. CPA or MBA).
- Experience with ERP/accounting software systems such as Oracle NetSuite
- Proficiency with UKG Pro payroll software
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or similar certification
- Experience processing/managing payroll in multiple states
Position Type, Location, and Expected Hours of Work:
- This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Little Rock, Arkansas, with a minimum requirement of two days per week in the office. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional extended hours as needed.
Travel Requirement:
- This position requires minimal travel (approximately 0-15%)
