Position Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant to support the day-to-day financial operations of a growing nonprofit organization. This role will be responsible for full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, grant accounting, audit support, and month-end/year-end close activities while ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and funding requirements.
The ideal candidate will bring strong nonprofit accounting experience, advanced QuickBooks Online expertise, and a process-improvement mindset. This individual will serve as a key member of the finance team, helping strengthen internal controls, streamline workflows, and provide meaningful financial insights that support the organization's mission.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Operations
Perform full-cycle accounting functions including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
Manage day-to-day Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable activities
Review and reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and balance sheet accounts
Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes
Maintain the integrity of financial records in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
Financial Reporting
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports
Analyze financial results and investigate variances
Assist leadership with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow reporting
Develop reports that provide meaningful insights to support organizational decision-making
Grant & Fund Accounting
Track and monitor grant expenditures and restricted funds
Prepare grant financial reports and reimbursement requests
Ensure expenses are properly allocated and coded by funding source
Support compliance with grantor requirements and nonprofit fund accounting principles
Audit & Compliance
Coordinate and support annual financial audits and grant audits
Prepare audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation
Maintain strong internal controls and ensure audit readiness throughout the year
Assist with regulatory and financial compliance requirements
Process Improvement
Evaluate existing accounting processes and identify opportunities for greater efficiency and accuracy
Recommend and implement best practices to improve workflows, reporting, and internal controls
Leverage QuickBooks Online and other technology tools to automate and streamline processes
Partner with leadership to build scalable accounting procedures that support organizational growth
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent work experience
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit organization
Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, grants management, and GAAP
Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Online required
Experience managing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, reconciliations, financial reporting, and month-end close
Experience supporting external audits and preparing audit schedules
Strong Excel skills including pivot tables, lookups, and financial analysis
Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently while supporting a mission-driven environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with nonprofit grant funding, restricted funds, and government contracts
Experience implementing process improvements and strengthening accounting operations
Prior experience serving in a Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, or similar role
Experience working in a small to mid-sized nonprofit environment where wearing multiple hats is required

Pay between $33/hr-$37/hr DOE
