The Senior Advanced R&D Engineer/Scientist leads research, development, and technical service activities focused on blowing agent technologies for polyurethane foam insulation applications. This role provides technical leadership, drives innovation, and partners with commercial teams to support customer solutions and business growth. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to development of polyurethane insulation materials and expand advanced material technologies in the market.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical service, product development, and growth initiatives in polyurethane foam insulation applications
- Serve as a subject matter expert in polyurethane foam formulation, processing, and blowing agent technologies
- Design, execute, and interpret experiments related to polyurethane raw materials, formulations, and processing conditions
- Evaluate blowing agents and foam systems, including physical testing and performance analysis
- Translate complex technical data into clear, actionable insights for internal and external stakeholders
- Partner with commercial teams to identify new application opportunities and support business development
- Conduct voice-of-customer (VOC) interviews to understand customer needs and define product value propositions
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for testing, processing, and equipment use
- Supervise laboratory-scale foam preparation using hand-mix and foam machine techniques
- Supervise technicians and support cross-functional collaboration across R&D and commercial teams
Physical & Safety Requirements
- Ability to travel (30%) in US and International
- Ability to lift and handle materials up to 35 lbs
- Capability to handle and dispense materials from 5-gallon pails and 55-gallon drums
- Comfortable working with a range of chemicals, including isocyanates, polyols, solvents, and blowing agents including Non-TSCA materials
- Commitment to safe laboratory practices and active participation in safety programs
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including:
- Safety shoes
- Safety glasses and chemical goggles
- Respiratory protection

MUST HAVE
- Bachelor's degree (minimum) in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in polyurethane foam formulation and processing
- Experience in polyurethane insulation foam applications (required)
- Experience maintaining laboratory notebooks and documenting experimental results
- Strong expertise in polyurethane foam formulation, processing, and testing
- Hands-on experience with laboratory and pilot-scale polyurethane foam processing equipment
- Proficiency in experimental design, data analysis, and technical problem-solving
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly, both verbally and in writing
WE VALUE

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Experience with electronic lab notebooks (e.g., ELN systems)
- Ability to learn and operate instrument control and data acquisition software

COMPENSATION
The annual base range for this position is $127805-$159500k. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline.
