Job Description:

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) has an opening for a Sr. Advisor of Federal Policy in Washington, D.C. Reporting to the Assistant Director for Government Affairs, this position will help develop and advance the NAIC's federal policy priorities, shaping strategic initiatives, and serving as the primary liaison to key committees. The selected individual will advance the state-based insurance regulatory framework by supporting the 56 state and territorial Chief Insurance Regulators and state insurance departments.

This position is full-time position working a hybrid schedule. Residency within 100 miles of the Washington, D.C. office is required.

Responsibilities include

  • Assess emerging insurance policy issues and partner with the Assistant Director of Government Affairs to recommend matters for NAIC committee, task force, and working group consideration.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with commissioners, regulators, congressional and federal staff, industry groups, and other stakeholders to support NAIC priorities.

  • Help identify, prioritize, and advance NAIC federal legislative and regulatory policy initiatives, with emphasis on property and casualty, market regulation, and consumer affairs issues.

  • Monitor, analyze, and interpret congressional legislation, federal regulatory actions, and related policy developments affecting state insurance regulation.

  • Coordinate NAIC outreach to Congress and federal agencies, serve as a technical resource on NAIC positions and state policy issues, and facilitate member engagement with federal officials.

  • Draft clear, timely testimony, letters, briefs, memoranda, amendments, and policy papers, and support briefings and communications that inform NAIC members and promote NAIC positions.

  • Provide guidance to insurance commissioners and regulators on assigned federal policy issues, support public relations efforts, and represent the NAIC with trade associations and at conferences and events, as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Experience Required

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university and 6-10 years related experience in government relations or public policy or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred

Law or Master's degree

Systems & Technology Requirements

Office Suite/365, Politico Pro, other systems as may be needed.

Travel

This position may require some out-of-state, overnight travel in support of member meetings and events throughout the year.

Compensation

Starting at $135,675
