Sr Associate Investment Accountant

What You'll Do:

We are looking for a Senior Associate Investment Accountant, Statutory Reporting, to join our Principal Asset Management Team. In this role, you will be responsible for statutory investment accounting and financial reporting across multiple investment strategies and asset classes. The position partners closely with Asset Management, Investment Operations, Risk, Compliance, Tax, Audit, and Technology teams to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant statutory investment reporting supported by strong controls and documentation. 

Statutory Investment Reporting & Financial Statements 

• Responsible for monthly, quarterly, and annual statutory investment reporting, including Schedule D, investment exhibits, annual statement pages, and other NAIC-based reporting requirements. 

• Prepare and review statutory investment schedules and supporting workpapers to validate completeness, accuracy, and compliance with statutory accounting guidance. 

• Apply statutory accounting principles and investment reporting requirements to investment transactions across multiple asset classes. 

• Support senior team members in assessing statutory accounting and reporting implications of investment strategies, transactions, and classification decisions. 

 

Controls, Compliance & Audit 

• Execute established internal control procedures related to investment reporting 

• Prepare, maintain, and organize audit documentation and support schedules 

• Assist with risk mitigation efforts through accurate reporting and documentation 

 

Systems, Projects & Process Improvement 

• Participate in system implementations and enhancements related to investment reporting 

• Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and documentation of business and reporting requirements 

• Assist with developing and enhancing automated reporting and reconciliation processes 

 

Cross Functional Collaboration 

• Coordinate with cross-functional partners to ensure accurate and consistent reporting of investment data 

• Perform routine analysis related to investment performance and reporting trends 

 

Continuous Improvement 

• Stay current on statutory accounting standards, NAIC guidance, regulatory requirements, and investment reporting best practices 

• Identify and recommend process and reporting improvements to enhance efficiency and control 

Who You Are:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required
• 2+ years of relevant accounting experience in financial services is required 
• Working knowledge of common investment products and strategies 
• Proficient in Excel; knowledge of basic reporting tools 
• Excellent communication and analytical skills 
• Detail-oriented with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities 
• This position may require successful completion of a criminal background check 

Skills That Will Help You Stand Out 

• Experience preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual statutory investment reports, including Schedule D, investment exhibits, annual statement pages, NAIC-based reporting requirements, and audit support preferred 

• Experience with investment accounting systems such as PFI (PAM for investments) or similar platforms 

• CPA designation or progress toward CPA certification is a plus 

Salary Range Information: Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Salary Range: $73150 - $99750 / year Time Off Program: Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided. Pension Eligible: Yes Additional Information:

This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical work week) from Des Moines, IA.
