The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Cox Fleet is currently hiring aShop Paint Tech IIto join our Field Maintenance Team to supportfuturegrowth of the Company. This is an on-siteroleand we do not provide emergency road services. If you are looking for a new place to call home, we would love to talk to you!Sr Shop Paint Technician willbe responsible forformulating, mixing, and applying properly mixed and dispensed automotive refinish materials to vehicle surfaces and sub-assemblies, using spray-painting equipment, power tools, and other duties as assigned such as minor body repairs. The Sr Shop Paint Technician can perform more advanced refinishing procedures such as multi-stage systems, two tone, and stripes. The Sr Shop Paint TechnicianassistsShop Paint Technician I and II with refinishing and continues to learnadditionaladvanced refinishing skills. Heavily reliedupon fortroubleshooting including color match and paint imperfections. A successful Sr Shop Paint Techniciancomplies withall company policies and achieveshigh levelperformance metrics.

Primary Duties/Key Responsibilities

  • Perform adjustments and intermediaterepairvarious typesof truck and trailer equipment.

  • Identifyproblems,determineaccuracy and relevance of information,usingsound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and make recommendations. 

  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as computers and pressure gauges.

  • Assist Shop Paint Technician I & II with refinish troubleshooting.

  • Perform advanced refinish troubleshooting and triage of complicated refinishing by Shop Paint Technicians I & II. 

  • Formulate and apply mixed and dispensed automotive refinish materials to vehicle surfaces and sub-assembliesin accordance withapplicable standards and procedures. 

  • Mix only the amount of refinish products (primer, base and clear)to cover repair/refinish area and limit waste, using paint suppliers “mix-management system”.

  • Update all paint supplier color, technical data and MSDS material as received.

  • Assure all refinish products are properly formulated to meet color match and finish texture expectations,utilizingall tools and techniques provided by paintsupplierstechnical support system (i.e., TDS, color match system, etc.).

  • Inspect refinish products to be used for proper formulation to meet color match and finish texture standards

  • Maintaina high levelof productivity and be able to work within or close to most Standard Repair Times.

  • Communicate with Shop Manager and support team to discuss RO findings notes.

  • Perform minor adjustments and body repairs onvarious typesof truck and trailer equipment. 

  • Apply, mix, and dispense automotive refinish materials to vehicle surfaces and sub-assembliesin accordance withapplicable standards and procedures. 

  • Inspectthe conditionof panels to be painted for any subtle defects in repair, prepping or masking;referany issues discovered to supervisor. 

  • Workwith a high degree of independence.

  • Clean andmaintainall paint formulation and spray application equipment andmaintainpaint and storage areas

  • Identifyproblems,determineaccuracy and relevance of information, using sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.

  • Work withShopManager to assess customer needs,provideinformation orassistance,resolvingtheir problems, orsatisfyingtheir expectations.

  • Manage concurrent assigned tasks, making effective judgments as to prioritizing work related activities and time allocations.

  • Support Shop PaintTechnician Iin obtaining correct materials for each job.  

  • Ensure adequate supply ofrefinishedproducts to meet production requirements

Education/Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED and 5 years’ experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as anyleveldegree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline and 3 years’ experience; or 7 years’ experience in a related field. 

  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.

  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months. 

  • ASE B2 (Painting and Refinishing) certification

  • ASE B3 (Non-Structural Analysis and Damage Repair) certification

  • ASE B5 (Mechanical and Electrical) certification

Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience asPaintTechnician on medium to heavy-duty vehicle repair or equivalent combination of technical education/certifications/skill/experiences.

  • Associate's Degree, BA/BS or Technical certification+ up to2 yearexperience

  • 5 years of equivalent experience in a similar capacity Technician role.

Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of various paint equipment and paint systems, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

  • Ability to communicate information (for example, facts, ideas, or messages) in a succinct and organized manner. Engages in effective two-way communication with individuals and groups.

  • Use logic and reasoning toidentifythe strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. 

  • Understand the implications ofnew informationfor both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
