Job DescriptionThe gift shops are located at Parnassus, Mission Bay, and Mount Zion hospitals. One shop specializes in products and services for cancer patients. In a relatively fast‑paced, multi‑tasked environment, the gift shop associate conducts retail sales, maintains the general upkeep, security, and safety awareness in the shop environment. The incumbent shall provide excellent customer care by assisting with general inquiries and assistance while working with the gift shop team to achieve operational objectives. The associate maintains the objectives of the medical center and department, understands the mission of UCSF Health, and applies that mission to the customer experience and merchandising of products.ResponsibilitiesCustomer Service (20%)Greet customers and understand that customer service is the number one priority at UCSF Hospital Gift Shops.Demonstrate respect, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.Take telephone inquiries and assist with orders, delivering to patient rooms when required.Assist Manager/Assistant Manager with ongoing projects.Assist in improving customer experience.Assist Manager/Assistant Manager in reaching out to customers with issues or special orders and maintain a log.Cashier (25%)Follow UCSF cash handling procedures.Ensure accuracy and secure transactions with money handling.Open and close the store in a timely manner.Accurately count money, manage change fund, and process deposits at the end and beginning of the day.Maintain a balance log of the safe and gift‑card balances and ensure the safe balance is sufficient.Assist on daily reconciliation, monthly reports, and sales goals.Report malfunctioning equipment to Assistant Manager/Manager.Inventory Management, Ordering and Receiving (15%)Assist Manager/Assistant Manager with re‑ordering and special orders.Create inventory reports from POS system or perform manual counts; physical counts must be given to Manager before items are ordered.Ensure merchandise is restocked promptly as it sells.Verify that merchandise is priced correctly and floor ready.Organize the stockroom when time allows.Take direction from Manager for markdowns.Accurately receive merchandise, report damages or incorrect quantities, and report to Manager.Enter data into POS system, create vouchers for accounting, price items, and store in stockroom until ready to put out.Merchandising (10%)Maintain the order and cleanliness of current displays.Restock displays when merchandise sells.Create displays to generate interest and sales.Loss Prevention (5%)Maintain a high level of awareness and customer contact on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment for everyone.Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions with employees and customers.Safeguard confidential information and credit card information.HousekeepingPerform general maintenance and cleanliness of shop.Report unsafe conditions to Manager.Required QualificationsTwo years of Retail Sales experience in a fast‑paced environment.High School Diploma or GED equivalent.Flexibility to work in all UCSF Gift Shops: Parnassus, Mission Bay (two locations), and Mount Zion; availability for a variety of hours including weekends and holidays.Cash handling experience using POS systems, credit card terminals, and Apple Pay.Customer service experience with a positive attitude, friendly and pleasant demeanor over the phone and in person.Preferred QualificationsPrevious experience in a healthcare retail environment.Proficiency in using computer systems such as word processing, spreadsheets, creating signage, marketing on social media, and website management.Salary InformationThe final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.
