SR. CLIENT ACCOUNTING & TAX SPECIALIST

We are seeking an experienced Senior Client Accounting & Tax Specialist to independently manage a portfolio of monthly and quarterly accounting clients, lead bookkeeping cleanup and onboarding engagements, and prepare individual and straightforward business tax returns. This senior-level individual contributor works with limited day-to-day supervision and receives high-level review and technical oversight from a Senior CPA.

The position is primarily focused on year-round client accounting services, with expanded tax preparation responsibilities during tax season. The successful candidate will combine strong technical accounting skills with responsive client service and an interest in helping the firm move from compliance-focused work toward proactive advisory relationships.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Own recurring client accounting engagements from document collection through review-ready financial reporting.
• Provide full-cycle bookkeeping and review, correct, or clean up client-maintained accounting records.
• Reconcile balance-sheet accounts, prepare adjusting journal entries, complete period-end closes, and produce accurate financial statements.
• Lead catch-up bookkeeping, cleanup projects, and onboarding of new client accounting files.
• Process primarily monthly S corporation shareholder payroll through a third-party provider; record and reconcile payroll activity in client accounting systems. The provider handles payroll tax filings.
• Prepare federal, state, and applicable local Forms 1040 and Schedule C returns, plus straightforward Forms 1065 and 1120-S, for high-level Senior CPA review.
• Serve as a primary day-to-day client contact, resolve routine issues, and escalate complex or unfamiliar matters appropriately.
• Identify trends, process improvements, and potential planning opportunities that can support future advisory conversations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in public accounting, client accounting services, full-cycle bookkeeping, tax preparation, or a closely related role.
• Experience independently managing recurring client work and bookkeeping cleanup engagements.
• Experience preparing individual and straightforward partnership and S corporation tax returns.
• Strong knowledge of general-ledger accounting, reconciliations, adjusting entries, financial statements, and year-end close procedures.
• Hands-on proficiency in QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop.
• Intermediate Microsoft Excel proficiency for data organization, account analysis, reconciliations, and workpapers.
• Strong communication, organization, professional judgment, and deadline-management skills.
• Ability to work additional hours during tax season as needed.
• Degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; substantial relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
• CPA or Enrolled Agent credential.
