Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a highly experienced and talented individual to improve and optimize our R&D CNC programming activities. Joby is working towards the goal of development, certification and production of a world changing eVTOL aircraft. As the Senior CNC Programmer, this individual will have overall responsibility for development, implementation, and training of the 3, 5-axis and Lathe CNC programming processes for the R&D Machine Shop.

Responsibilities

Will be responsible for answering questions and working with 2 other machinists over Second shift. Overlap and communicate with day shift team to discuss priorities and handoffs between shifts. Ability to communicate job priorities to Second shift.

Prototype machining via creating and editing CNC programs that support the machining of a wide range of R&D, Aircraft, and Tooling components. Occasional Conformable Flight Articles.

Will be utilizing Fusion360 as the primary CAD/CAM software to write programs. Participates in machining parts on the machine with Haas and Fanuc controllers. Able to operate mills, lathes, drill presses, saws, grinders, and a variety of other equipment.

Able to program, set up, and operate 3 axis, 5 axis mills and live tooling lathes to create complex aircraft components, fixtures, and tooling, from rough stock to finished part.

Synchronize and create machining process development & optimization (part setup/fixturing, machining strategy/order of operations, tool selection, speed/feed process parameter selection)

Communicate with Programmers, Machinists, and Team Leaders to identify, select, and procure appropriate tooling for job specific applications (based on part material, geometry, features, tolerances, system rigidity, and equipment capability)

Continuously improve design and production efforts by working closely with the engineering team

Perform inspections and measurements of product dimensions using basic Quality Control measuring tools, probing routines, calipers, micrometer, depth gauges, and other measuring equipment.

Demonstrates ability to document and communicate well within the team environment.

Demonstrate continuous improvement of a well-organized and safe environment for all workspaces.

Able to communicate GD&T effectively to other machinists and programmers.

Prioritizes quality on completed parts, holds tight tolerances, performs inspection of own parts and can inspect co-worker's work.

Required

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

Work Shift - Monday - Friday 3:30 p.m. - 12:30 a.m.

5-7 Years experience as a Programmer with prior or combined machinist experience (proven ability to program, setup and operate CNC equipment)

Ability to program and machine using Fusion 360 CAM software in 3, 5 axis milling and live tooling lathe CNC

Capable of both verbal and written communication and collaboration effectively both in a team environment and with engineering

Proficient in GD&T and ability to read blueprints and other design documents as well as interpret verbal design instructions

Knowledgeable about integrated probing systems

Knowledgeable in a variety of materials and fundamental concepts of machining techniques and mechanics [stress, strain, etc.]

Willingness to work outside your comfort zone, in a fast paced non-traditional manufacturing environment

Assembly experience and working knowledge of basic fasteners and hand tools

Desired

10-15 years experience as a Programmer

15-20 years experience as a Machinist

Fusion 360, HSM Works, MasterCAM

Experience in a fast paced, high variety machine shop environment

Able to use a manual CMM

Experience with Polyworks or PC-DMIS

Experience with Lang or similar zero point workholding

Experience with Dassault Systemes Catia

Proficiency in FUSION 360 5-axis programming

Experience with company chat systems such as Slack and Microsoft Teams

Experience with planning and job ticketing softwares such as Jira

The target base pay for this position is $ $44-$60/hr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
