The role identifies stories about university initiatives, accomplishments and achievements that may warrant internal or external promotion. It conceptualizes and produces compelling print and multimedia content. It serves as a liaison for institutional priority areas to proactively communicate news of interest, works with local, regional and national media to obtain news coverage, and writes/edits news briefs, feature articles and profiles for publication on digital channels or in university magazines. The position crafts media pitches and news releases and coordinates news coverage for events. It produces multimedia content (video, photo, graphics). Takes after-hours calls and serves as the primary contact in the event of an emergency.Responsibilities Identify stories about university initiatives, accomplishments and achievements that warrant internal or external promotion; conceptualize and produce compelling print and multimedia content for digital platforms (writing, video, photos, graphics).Serve as a liaison for institutional priority areas to proactively communicate news of interest to the broader community; prepare AU Experts for interviews, including helping to hone clear, effective messaging and staffing interviews.Work with local, regional and national media to obtain news coverage for the university; craft media pitches and news releases; coordinate news coverage for events; take after-hours calls and serve as a point of contact with the media during an emergency.Maintain current digital and media relations knowledge. Use a project management system daily to document and track projects from start to finish.Perform all other related duties as assigned.Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field with a minimum of 5 years of professional communications experience.Preferred Qualifications Master's degree from an accredited college or university and three plus years relevant experience.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Proficient in WordPress.Knowledge of Jagwire, Fine Print and Experts Center; excellent writing and editing skills.Understanding of AP style and media concepts.Ability to understand and decipher complex concepts; self-starter; ability to think strategically about how AU's mission and expertise might align with, influence or support world affairs.Coordinating/conducting media training; creative and enthusiastic team player; strong professional relationships with development journalists are a plus.Shift / Salary / Benefits Shift: Days/Mon-Fri (work outside of normal business hours may be required for exempt positions)Pay Band: B9Salary Range: $48,800 annually – $61,000 annually; salary to be commensurate with qualifications within the established range.Recruitment Period: 6/25/26 – Until FilledBenefits include health insurance, dental, life, retirement plans, vacation, sick leave, and holidays; Tuition Assistance Program eligibility after more than 6 months of employment.Conditions of Employment All selected candidates must pass a background check prior to starting.Credit check may be required for positions of trust or approved departmental Purchase Card usage where applicable.Motor vehicle reports may be required for positions involving driving an Augusta University vehicle.Faculty hires must provide official degree transcripts and any required credential evaluations for foreign degrees.All employees are responsible for maintaining confidentiality and adhering to cybersecurity and privacy policies.Other Information This position promotes a customer-friendly environment and provides superior service to patients, students, faculty, and employees.
