BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Company is seeking an experienced Senior Completions Engineer to support the planning, execution, and optimization of onshore and offshore completion and workover operations. This role will work closely with Drilling, Reservoir, Production, Regulatory, and Operations teams to design and execute safe, efficient, and cost-effective completion programs that maximize asset value and well performance.
The Sr. Completions Engineer will provide technical leadership in completion, artificial lift and stimulation design, workover, intervention planning, and operational execution. The position is responsible for preparing completion programs, developing AFE cost estimates, managing service providers, supporting field operations, and ensuring compliance with Company HSSE standards and state and federal regulatory requirements.
This role requires strong technical expertise, operational experience, and the ability to support field operations on a 24/7 on-call basis as required. Travel to field locations, including onshore and offshore facilities, is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the engineering design, planning, and execution of completion, workover and intervention operations for onshore and offshore wells
- Partner with Reservoir Engineering to optimize slot recovery, well placement, artificial lift method and production performance
- Prepare detailed completion and workover procedures, operational programs, and engineering documentation
- Generate AFE cost estimates and track expenditures to ensure operational and budgetary compliance
- Support field execution of completion and workover activities through coordination with field supervisors, contractors, and service companies
- Monitor daily operations and provide technical troubleshooting support during completion and intervention activities
- Evaluate new technologies, tools, and methodologies to improve operational efficiency, safety, and well performance
- Prepare scopes of work, review bids, and support vendor selection for completion and workover services
- Review, code, and approve vendor invoices and field tickets in a timely manner
- Ensure compliance with all Company HSSE policies, environmental standards, and applicable regulatory requirements
- Participate in multidisciplinary operational planning meetings with Drilling, Production, Reservoir, Geology, Land, and Regulatory teams
- Maintain accurate engineering records, operational files, and completion/workover documentation
- Interface with state and federal regulatory agencies as necessary
- Provide operational support during after-hours, weekends, and emergency situations as required
- Support offshore and field operations through periodic site visits and operational oversight
- Required to work onsite daily at the Houston Office and travel to CA Offshore and Las Flores Canyon facility in Goleta, California as required
- Must be available to travel offshore via helicopter or boat transportation as required
- Must be willing to travel to field locations and other Company operational sites as needed
- Must be capable of working in office, control room, plant, and field environments, including offshore facilities and industrial process areas
- Must comply with all Company safety policies and PPE requirements
- Perform additional duties as assigned
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related Engineering discipline required
- Minimum 10+ years of oil and gas completion and workover engineering experience
- Strong experience with offshore operations from fixed platforms, artificial lift design including gas lift and ESP
- Previous field operations experience in completion and workover environments required
- Experience with offshore completion and intervention operations including coil tubing, slick line and electric line preferred
- Strong understanding of drilling, completions, production operations, and reservoir integration
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and offshore regulatory requirements
- Proficiency with engineering software, well modeling applications, Microsoft Excel, and data analysis tools
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and operational priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively interact with all levels of management, operations personnel, contractors, and regulatory agencies. Knowledge of instrumentation, analyzers, process safety systems, and industrial control philosophies
- Familiarity with alarm management, control loop tuning, historian systems, and process optimization
- Understanding of Process Safety Management (PSM) and Management of Change (MOC) requirements
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical drawings, loop diagrams, and control narratives
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced operational environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional operational teams
PAY INFORMATION:
- Annual Salary Pay Range: $175k - $225k
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The position requires manual dexterity to handle documents and operate office equipment such as printers, shredders, and computers. Also required is performing repetitive motions and extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking for varying lengths of time. The position requires interacting and communicating professionally with others via speaking, hearing, and writing; learning new tasks, processes, and concepts; thinking to solve problems; concentrating on required tasks; distinguishing color and depth perception; and reading data, figures, electronic and hard copy documents.
Visual and manual dexterity are extremely important for this position. The incumbent will be subject to performing sedentary to light work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, or constantly lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects, reaching overhead for items, stooping, bending, and twisting while working. Other physical activities include the ability to utilize fingers to feel and grasp objects or work devices as needed and manual dexterity in the use of the hands, seeing, talking, hearing, performing repetitive motions, and standing for long periods of time.
The position requires walking or traversing over and across uneven terrain, accessing areas outdoors and on or around equipment, over or around obstacles or structures such as pipes, low rails, and walls, stooping or bending to reach certain locations, climbing stairs or ladders, and exposure to outside weather conditions.
The position may require facility inspections, which necessitate wearing a respirator and personal protective equipment, such as gloves, gas masks, and suits, with an average weight of 10-25 pounds.
