Senior Cost Accountant
Location: Maryland Heights, MO (100% On-Site)
Pay Rate: $80/HR
Assignment: 7-Month W2 Contract (High Potential for Extension or Conversion)

Role Summary
Our client, a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing organization, is seeking an experienced Senior Cost Accountant to support manufacturing operations through detailed cost accounting, inventory management, and financial analysis. This individual will own the manufacturing cost environment, partner closely with Operations and Supply Chain, and provide actionable financial insights that drive operational and business decisions.
This is an excellent opportunity for a manufacturing cost accounting professional with experience in regulated industries who enjoys working cross-functionally to improve financial performance and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Cost Accounting
  • Own and maintain the standard cost system, including labor, overhead, material, yield, routing, and absorption assumptions.
  • Develop, validate, and maintain standard cost build-ups for raw materials, components, and finished products.
  • Analyze manufacturing cost variances including:
    • Purchase Price Variance (PPV)
    • Material usage
    • Labor efficiency
    • Overhead absorption
    • Scrap and yield
  • Review and investigate production order variances within Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365).
  • Support annual and periodic standard cost roll processes.
  • Validate Bill of Materials (BOM) accuracy and routing costs.
  • Identify costing discrepancies and perform root cause analysis while recommending corrective actions.
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Operations, Supply Chain, and IT to improve costing processes and system performance.
  • Evaluate the financial impact of production changes including volume, utilization, rework, scrap, and yield.
Inventory Accounting
  • Perform monthly inventory valuation for raw materials, work-in-process (WIP), intermediates, and finished goods.
  • Reconcile inventory subledger to the General Ledger.
  • Prepare inventory-related journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
  • Analyze inventory transactions including transfers, scrap, consumption, and reclassifications.
  • Lead monthly inventory roll-forward reporting.
  • Support cycle counts, annual physical inventories, and audit activities.
  • Analyze slow-moving and obsolete inventory.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and cGMP requirements.
Financial Analysis & Reporting
  • Prepare Budget vs. Actual manufacturing cost analyses.
  • Develop financial models to support operational planning and decision-making.
  • Analyze labor efficiency, overhead spending, margins, and manufacturing trends.
  • Prepare P&L variance explanations for leadership.
  • Translate financial data into meaningful operational insights and recommendations.
  • Identify emerging financial risks and opportunities before they impact business results.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 6-9 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of manufacturing cost accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of inventory accounting and standard costing.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modeling.
  • Experience working within an ERP system (Microsoft Dynamics 365 preferred).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively partner with Finance, Manufacturing, and Operations teams.
Preferred
  • Pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, or other highly regulated manufacturing experience.
  • Experience working in cGMP-regulated environments.
  • Experience supporting audits and financial controls.
