Company Overview
Riverstone Logistics (RLX) is a big and bulky supply chain powerhouse delivering seamless final mile, middle mile, warehousing, fulfillment, and storage solutions through a nationally integrated platform.
Founded in 2017 by five partners who believed logistics could be built around something bigger than moving freight, we began with furniture delivery and grew into a nationwide provider serving complex supply chains across the United States.
We are a purpose-driven company. We exist to use our God-given talents and opportunities to love our neighbors, serve our communities, and improve our industry. That purpose shapes how we lead our teams, how we partner with our customers, and how we take ownership of every delivery.
Our people, who we call Extra Milers, bring genuine integrity and care to every mile. If you lead well, communicate with clarity, and want your work to mean something, we want to meet you. If you're looking for a place where people genuinely matter, you've found it.
Role Overview
Mission: To build reliable, well-modeled data that powers operational decision-making and enables trusted, self-serve analytics across the business.
Core Objective: Design, develop, and deliver high-quality data pipelines and models—balancing core warehouse development with integrations, governance, and analytics enablement to support business growth and data trust. The Senior Data Engineer plays a key role in ensuring the data platform can adapt to evolving business needs while remaining reliable, scalable, and cost-efficient.
Who You Are (“The Ideal Candidate”):
You are a hands-on builder who takes ownership of delivering trusted, production-grade data.
You are comfortable working end to end—from ingestion and modeling through the datasets that land in front of the business.
You are pragmatic and solutions-oriented, focused on delivering usable data while maintaining technical quality.
You are detail-oriented and take pride in clean, well-tested, well-documented models.
You thrive in fast-paced environments where requirements evolve and priorities shift.
You collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
You are curious and continuously look for ways to improve systems, processes, and outcomes.
Key Characteristics We Are Looking For:
End-to-End Capability: Comfortable across ingestion, transformation, warehousing, and analytics delivery.
Execution Focus: Ships reliable pipelines and models that hold up in production.
Problem Solver: Turns ambiguous business questions into practical, scalable data models.
Ownership Mentality: Takes responsibility for data from source through consumption and support.
Technical Quality: Builds testing, monitoring, and documentation in from the start—not after.
Adaptability: Able to navigate changing requirements and evolving priorities.
Collaboration: Works effectively with Analytics, Product, Operations, and Finance.
Systems Thinking: Understands how upstream changes ripple through models and downstream consumers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Core Data Platform Development
Build and maintain ingestion pipelines into Snowflake using Fivetran and custom Python where connectors fall short
Design and own dbt models—staging through marts—with clear tests, documentation, and ownership
Model operational data to reflect real-world logistics workflows, not just source-system structure
Contribute to improving warehouse design, performance, and maintainability
Integrations & Data Delivery
Design and implement data integrations with third-party and internal systems (e.g., TMS, WMS, partner platforms)
Operationalize data through Hightouch, syncing modeled data back into the systems where work happens
Deliver curated, well-defined datasets that power Omni dashboards and self-serve reporting
Ensure pipelines and syncs are reliable, scalable, and maintainable in production
Platform Ownership & Governance
Own Snowflake performance and cost—warehouse sizing, query tuning, storage strategy
Establish data quality standards: testing, monitoring, alerting, and lineage so issues surface before stakeholders find them
Set and enforce governance practices—access controls, naming conventions, shared definitions, documentation
Participate in code reviews and contribute to shared engineering standards and best practices
Identify and address technical debt and pipeline inefficiencies
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Analytics, Product, Operations, and Finance on data model design and execution
Support investigation and resolution of data issues affecting internal teams and customers
Provide technical input to improve workflows and reduce operational friction
Communicate clearly on technical trade-offs, timelines, and risks
Success Metrics / Outcomes
Reliability and freshness of pipelines in live environments
Adoption and trust in curated datasets across the business
Speed from business question to production-ready model
Reduction in data issues and one-off reporting requests
Snowflake performance and cost efficiency
Model quality, documentation, and maintainability
Positive feedback from internal teams and customers
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
[5]+ years of experience in data engineering or a closely related role
Advanced SQL and strong Snowflake experience, including performance and cost optimization
Production dbt experience—modeling, testing, macros, and CI
Proficient Python for pipeline work, API integrations, and automation
Experience with ELT tooling (Fivetran or equivalent) and reverse ETL (Hightouch or equivalent)
Solid grounding in dimensional modeling and warehouse design
Track record building data quality and observability into pipelines
Git-based workflows and version control discipline
Strong collaboration and communication skills
Experience with Omni, Looker, or a similar semantic-layer BI tool preferred
Experience with logistics, transportation, or supply chain data (TMS, WMS, EDI, telematics) preferred
