ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in access solutions, is seeking a highly motivated Sr. Data Governance Engineer to further define and scale our enterprise data governance program throughout the Opening Solutions Americas Division. In this role, you will collaborate with teams across the business, including Business Intelligence, AI, Pricing, IT, and Business Analysts to integrate, document, and enhance data from multiple systems. You will help define standards, improve data quality, and ensure our data is trusted, discoverable, and compliant.

This is an onsite role based in New Haven, CT. 

What you will be doing

  • Define and build the Data Governance Architecture for the Americas Division working with Segment and Business Team members. 
  • Operationalize core governance processes including data steward onboarding, glossary management, access approvals, and policy enforcement.
  • Develop and maintain metadata assets such as business glossaries, technical metadata, and data classification models.
  • Build and document end-to-end data lineage across critical domains and data pipelines.
  • Implement data quality controls including profiling, monitoring, rule creation, and remediation workflows.
  • Create and optimize workflows to support standardized data governance practices.
  • Improve data discovery and user adoption through catalog taxonomies, trust indicators, and curated datasets.
  • Ensure compliance with major regulatory and risk frameworks (GDPR, HIPAA, SOX, CCPA).
  • Partner with BI and engineering teams to make governed data accessible, well-documented, and analytics ready. 
  • Develop playbooks, standards, and training materials, coach data stewards, and business users. 

What we are looking for

We are looking for a candidate who demonstrates strong executional rigor, technical fluency, and a proactive, self-starter mindset. 

 

  • 5+ years of experience in data governance, data quality, or data management.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in computer science or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong attention to detail and proficiency with data structures and SQL.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT concepts and data warehousing environments.
  • Programming skills in Python or Java.
  • Strong Excel capability.
  • Familiarity with enterprise systems across finance, CRM, sales, inventory, and related areas.
  • Exposure to APIs and automation tools (Python, REST, Collibra Connect, Purview Graph/REST).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and partner effectively across technical and nontechnical stakeholders both locally and offshore, as well as senior leaders of the Americas business.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.
  • Ability to travel 10-15%

Preferred Qualifications 

 

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric.
  • Hands-on work integrating catalogs with platforms like Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or Azure Synapse.
  • Knowledge of data modeling (conceptual, logical, physical), MDM, and reference data management.
  • Experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Qlik).
  • Relevant certifications such as:
    • Collibra Ranger/Guardian
    • Microsoft Certified: Purview Information Protection
    • Alation Steward/Admin
    • Informatica IDQ, EDC, or Axon
