Sr. Database Administrator

Role Overview

Kelaca is seeking a Sr. Database Administrator for a client partner in Raleigh, NC. This contract role supports a time-sensitive encryption-in-transit program across Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments, with DB2 experience viewed as a plus. The work combines hands-on database administration with close coordination across application, infrastructure and support teams to introduce secure connectivity with minimal disruption.

This position sits within a program-driven security initiative rather than routine BAU support. You will assess current database configurations, design secure connectivity changes and guide them through testing, cutover and production deployment. Success depends on strong technical depth, disciplined change execution and the ability to manage cross-team dependencies in a complex enterprise environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Assess, design and implement encryption-in-transit solutions across assigned database platforms.

  • Validate certificates, secure ports, connectivity paths and encryption configurations.

  • Troubleshoot connectivity and performance issues related to encrypted database communications.

  • Coordinate implementation activity with application owners, infrastructure and support teams.

  • Develop implementation and validation procedures that minimise business disruption.

  • Support testing, cutover planning and production deployment activities.

What success looks like

  • Secure database connectivity is implemented reliably with minimal impact to dependent applications.

  • Cross-team implementation activity stays aligned across platforms, environments and timelines.

  • Validation, troubleshooting and deployment work is completed with sound judgement and clear documentation.

  • Key risks are identified early and managed effectively during testing and production change windows.

Knowledge & tools

  • Senior-level administration across Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL.

  • Helpful additional exposure to DB2 in a mixed-platform estate.

  • Hands-on delivery of database encryption in transit.

  • Strong working knowledge of SSL/TLS, including certificate management, secure ports and connectivity validation.

  • Database connectivity and performance troubleshooting in live environments.

  • Experience supporting change implementation, deployment and cutover readiness.

Capabilities

  • Strong ownership mindset and accountability for technical outcomes.

  • Calm, practical problem-solving in time-sensitive technical situations.

  • Effective collaboration across cross-functional teams and priorities.

  • Ability to work independently while keeping stakeholders informed and aligned.

  • Clear written and verbal communication with disciplined follow-through.

Behavioral signals

  • Follows issues through to resolution, not just diagnosis.

  • Partners constructively with application, infrastructure and support stakeholders.

  • Brings balanced judgement where security, stability and delivery speed must all be considered.

  • Plans carefully, validates thoroughly and documents work in a way others can use.

Interfaces

  • Application owners and dependent technical teams.

  • Infrastructure and platform engineering partners.

  • Support and operational stakeholders involved in rollout and post-change validation.

Location & working pattern

  • Hybrid, fixed-location working model based in Raleigh, NC.

  • Standard work hours.

  • No travel required.

  • Contract assignment within a program-led delivery environment.

  • Resident work authorization required.

This role offers the chance to contribute to a high-importance security initiative with visible technical impact. You will work across a varied database estate, partner with experienced technical teams and help deliver secure connectivity changes that matter to live operations. It is a strong fit for someone who values meaningful hands-on work, enterprise-scale complexity and the opportunity to make sound technical decisions in a collaborative setting. If you are a senior DBA with strong encryption-in-transit experience and the ability to work across Oracle, SQL Server or PostgreSQL environments, Kelaca would welcome a conversation with you.
