The Senior Design and Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible to lead and participate in projects that will improve company profitability through efforts in Process Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Cost Reduction (VAIO), New Product Development, and Project Management. They will also be expected to support and mentor fellow engineering personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Sr Design and Manufacturing Engineer Primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Design, specify, purchase, and implement equipment and processes for the production of new or existing DMI products that will increase productivity, reduce costs, and/or increase revenue.
  • Be a project management professional, planning, scheduling, and leading all assigned projects to successful completion in the shortest possible time, at the lowest possible cost, and always on time, and at or below budget.
  • Create a detailed scope, timeline, and budget for each project before executing.
  • Develop a professional business case for projects being presented to corporate management or the Board of Directors
  • Become the resident expert in manufacturing engineering techniques and principles related to equipment, processes, and
  • Mentor Design and Manufacturing Engineers and CAD Technicians
  • Help with conceptualizing new design-related projects originating outside of the Engineering department.
  • Design, develop, and implement new products and/or product revisions.
  • Be responsible for design reviews and drawing checks for other engineers.

The Design and Manufacturing Engineer will:

  • Be the technical expert for equipment and processes.
  • Be an expert in solid modeling, utilizing solid modeling techniques in all process and product documentation.
  • Interface with and guide members of other engineering subdepartments as well as other departments to successfully manage projects.
  • Design and develop innovative new products
  • Assist production in identifying all critical to quality (CTQ) processes and parameters in order to develop procedures, sign offs, product documentation, and training for production.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCES

  • Minimum of 5 years working as a design or project engineer
  • 4+ years of Solid modeling experience
  • Preferred 5+ years of experience working in manufacturing
  • Product development experience
    • NPDP certification a plus
    • Experienced in VOC (Voice of the customer) a plus
    • Rapid Product development techniques a plus
      • QFD, 3P, X-functional teams
    • Project management experience
      • Microsoft Project experience a plus
      • PMP certification a plus
    • Manufacturing Engineering Experience
      • Work experience in a manufacturing environment, concepts, practices and procedures
      • Metals Manufacturing Experience Preferred, ideally, sheet metal
        • Familiar with equipment in the industry
        • Mechanically oriented
        • Electrical experience a plus
      • Solids modeling, experience
        • Utilize solids modeling on a daily basis as a tool to develop products
        • Inventor and Autodesk products a plus
      • BOM understanding and experience
        • Vault Pro or other MRP systems use is a plus
      • PC hardware general knowledge
      • Microsoft Office applications knowledge in all products but preferred
      • Knowledge of Lean and/or Six Sigma concepts

EDUCATION

  • 4 year Engineering Degree required, typical degrees would be:
    • BME – Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering
    • BSME – Bachelor of Science of Mechanical Engineering
    • BMET – Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Technology
    • Other comparable degrees.
