Sr. Director, Hematology/Oncology Service Line- Administration - Full Time

Position Summary

The Senior Director, Oncology Line serves as the senior administrative leader for the Oncology Service Line and partners closely with the Chair, Oncology Service Line to advance Guthrie's vision for integrated, high -quality, accessible, and sustainable cancer care.

Working in a physician-administrator dyed model, the Senior Director is responsible for service line strategy development and execution, operational performance, patient access, growth initiatives, financial stewardship, and program development across oncology services.

The Senior Director, in collaboration with the Strategic Implementation Office, will lead efforts to improve access to care, optimize patient experience, enhance operational efficiency, drive volume growth, and support achievement of quality and financial goals. This leader will work collaboratively with hospital, ambulatory, physician, nursing, and support service leaders to develop a unified oncology strategy and ensure consistent execution across the system.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Growth

• Partner with the Chair, Oncology Service Line to develop and execute a comprehensive oncology service line strategy aligned with organizational goals.

• Identify opportunities for program expansion, market growth, physician alignment, regional partnerships, and development of new capabilities across the cancer care continuum.

• Lead strategic planning processes including annual operating plan, long-range planning, business cases, and capital requests.

• Evaluate emerging care models, technologies, and innovative approaches to improve cancer care delivery, scalability, and sustainability.

• Collaborate with provider recruitment and physician leadership to support growth, workforce planning, and onboarding initiatives.

• Establish and monitor key performance indicators across access, quality, finance, growth, and patient experience.

Access and Patient Experience

• Lead systemwide initiatives to improve patient access across all oncology services.

• Monitor and improve new patient wait times, referral conversion rates, scheduling efficiency, infusion capacity, and care coordination.

• Develop streamlined patient pathways to reduce barriers and improve timeliness from referral through diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and supportive care.

• Collaborate with navigation, scheduling, clinical operations, and ambulatory teams to ensure a seamless, patient centered experience.

• Identify and address access disparities across markets, locations, and specialties.

Operational Leadership

• Provide administrative oversight for oncology service line operations across all sites, including provider clinical practices and hospital-based infusion and radiation services.

• Ensure standardization of operational workflows, performance expectations, staffing models, and best practices. Partner with clinical leaders to improve throughput, capacity management, resource utilization, care coordination, end operational reliability.

• Lead multidisciplinary operational reviews and performance Improvement initiatives.

• Support implementation of systemwide oncology programs, technologies, and operational changes.

• Develop governance processes that align operational priorities with service line strategies.

• Financial Stewardship

• Develop and manage operating and capital budgets for the oncology service line in partnership with finance and operational leaders.

• Monitor productivity, volumes, revenue, expenses, contribution margins, and overall service line financial performance.

• Lead performance improvement initiatives designed to enhance sustainability, operational efficiency, and resource utilization.

• Develop business plans and return-on-investment analyses for strategic growth opportunities.

• Partner with finance and operational leaders to achieve established performance targets.

Quality, Safety and Performance Excellence

• Support achievement of oncology quality, safety, accreditation, regulatory, and patient experience objectives.

• Use data and analytics to drive decision-making, identify variation, and support continuous improvement.

• Partner with physician and nursing to improve clinical outcomes and reduce unwarranted variation in care delivery.

• Support accreditation readiness and ongoing compliance with relevant oncology standards and requirements.

• Dyad Leadership and Collaboration

• Function as the administrative dyad partner to the Chair, Oncology Service Line.

• Collaboratively establish service line priorities, goals, governance, and performance expectations.

• Support physician engagement, change management, team alignment, and communication across oncology specialties.

• Foster strong relationships with department chairs, hospital leadership, nursing leadership, ambulatory operations, finance, strategy, philanthropy, marketing, and support services.

• Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, transparency, end continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Business Administration, Public Health, or related field required.

• Minimum of 7 to 10 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience.

• Demonstrated success leading service lines multi-site operations, or complex ambulatory programs.

• Experience in oncology, cancer services, or other specialty service line leadership strongly preferred.

• Proven track record in strategic planning, access improvement, operational transformation, financial management, and physician partnership.

• Strong analytical, communication, relationship-building, and change management skills.

Positioning note: This role is designed to complement the Chair of the Oncology Service Line by pairing physician-led clinical vision with administrative leadership for strategy execution, access, operations, growth, and financial performance.

The pay range for this position is $126,838-$195,686 per year.
