A Day in the Life

The Sr. Director of Professional Affairs Clinical Education leads the development and execution of U.S. medical education strategy for the Surgical Operating Unit, partnering closely with internal and external stakeholders to align training with clinical, commercial, and patient outcome goals. This role is responsible for designing and delivering innovative, scalable education programs that enhance procedural proficiency, drive technology adoption, and improve patient care.
A key focus of the role is the integration of digital platforms, data analytics, and personalized learning approaches to tailor training experiences for healthcare professionals (HCPs), ensuring measurable competency development and sustained engagement. The leader advances physician-led education initiatives, fosters strong relationships with clinicians and academic partners, and represents the organization through participation in scientific forums, symposia, and professional meetings.
Through strategic direction and operational oversight, this role ensures that clinical education programs are differentiated, data-driven, and aligned with evolving healthcare needs and organizational priorities.

         

         

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Facilitates customized training and education programs for Medical and Academic Professionals on diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, to increase procedural, technology and product adoption to improve patient outcomes.
  • Participates in conventions, forums, symposia educational content and scientific education programming meetings for promoting product and procedural awareness.
  • Conducts/ Facilitates physician led education and consulting, supports establishment and maintenance of customer relations with clinicians and organizations.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONAL CAREER STREAM: Management and supervisory professionals with one or more employees who are focused on tactical, operational and some strategic activities within a specified area. Levels within the management career stream typically have six or more direct reports. The majority of time is spent overseeing their area of responsibility, managing performance, developing talent, engagement and inclusion, communicating business and operational developments, planning, prioritizing and / or directing the responsibilities of direct reports. Goal achievement is typically accomplished through performance of direct and / or indirect reports. A key responsibility of roles in this career stream is managing people. which includes: accountability for mentoring, developing and coaching staff on meeting/exceeding performance expectations and defined objectives, providing leadership to staff ensuring the prioritization of strategic and department level initiatives to include defining performance goals and targets, conducting performance reviews, and staff 1:1s to guide performance management and employee development efforts and manage toward departmental goals.

Communication and Influence: Identifies, initiates, establishes and develops long term strategic relationships and alliances with key organizational stakeholders.
Serves as principal spokesperson for the department, broad functional area or geography making recommendations to leaders and executives regarding strategic initiatives .
Influences across functions and businesses to negotiate and gain cooperation on divergent objectives.

Leadership and Talent Management: Directs and controls one or more functional areas, geographies, divisions, product groups or service groups that include multiple teams led by directors and / or Sr Managers.
Determines organizational structure and develops talent strategies .
Develops management team to support strategic objectives .
Authorizes hiring, firing, promotion and reward within own area.

Required Knowledge and Experience: Requires advanced management and leadership knowledge to lead cross-department project teams or manage across multiple functions.
Typically has achieved mastery within a specific technical or broad expertise across multiple related disciplines.
Bachelors degree and and minimum of 15 years of relevant experience with 10+ years of managerial experience , or advanced degree with a minimum 13 years prior relevant experience, minimum of 10 years of managerial experience.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$216,000.00 - $324,000.00

 

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
