Primary Talent Partners has a new contract opening for a Sr Electrical Engineer with our medical device client in Lafayette, CO. This is a 12-month contract with a potential for extension.

Pay:$70.00 - $80.00/hr; W2 contract, no PTO, no Benefits. ACA-compliant supplemental package available for enrollment. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must be able to sit on Primary Talent Partners W2 without sponsorship.


Schedule: Onsite. 4 days per week compulsory in office and 1 flex day per week

Description:

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader and expert in designing, developing, and integrating complex electrical systems for company's Surgical Innovations products. This role provides a unique opportunity to work on challenging projects, mentor team members, and contribute directly to life-changing technologies.

You will work cross-functionally with teams in mechanical engineering, software development, quality assurance, new product development, and manufacturing to drive projects from concept through commercialization, with a focus on technology development. Your work will help company achieve its mission of alleviating pain, restoring health, and extending life for millions of patients worldwide.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the maintenance and testing of mixed-signal electrical systems and circuits for medical devices, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory standards (e.g., IEC 60601).
  • Develop detailed specifications, schematics, and PCB layouts, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to meet design and performance requirements.
  • Ensure reliability, develop technical specifications for test hardware conformance to specifications; may include modifying existing products.
  • Contributes to technical project planning, establish timelines, define deliverables, and proactively identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Develop detailed specifications for replacement of obsolete components; may include development of test specifications, regulatory assessment, and standards testing (e.g., IEC 60601)
  • Monitor, investigate, and validate customer complaint trends to determine if product needs additional modifications or redesign while maintaining product requirements


Other responsibilities as assigned:
  • Experience with all phases of mixed-signal board design including architecture, circuit design, schematic capture, component selection, PCB layout, and design verification
  • Strong electrical signals and systems fundamentals including frequency domain representations and circuit analysis
  • Experience with OrCAD schematic capture and PCB layout tools
  • Hands-on experience using lab test equipment (e.g. multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic and network analyzers) for system integration, debugging and testing Experience designing, testing, and implementing medium-voltage systems (
  • Experience in designing and testing medical equipment within a regulated industry and familiarity with 60601-1 safety standard
  • Ability to work in an agile development environment
  • Interest in the challenges of addressing customer complaints
 

Role Overview:

  • Senior Electrical Engineer supporting Healthcare surgical released product engineering team
  • Focus on complex electrical system design, development, and integration for surgical devices
  • Works on products from concept through commercialization
  • Team size approximately 11–12 engineers including electrical, mechanical, and technicians


Core Responsibilities:

  • Serve as technical lead for electrical system design and troubleshooting
  • Work on existing surgical device PCBAs and schematics
  • Understand and support legacy and current PCB designs
  • Identify and resolve technical issues in production and design
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, software, quality, regulatory, and manufacturing teams
  • Strong focus on hardware engineering rather than software development


Must-Have Skills:

  • Strong experience in mixed-signal electrical systems
  • Deep experience with PCB schematic design and PCB layout
  • Ability to read, interpret, and debug complex schematics
  • Experience working on PCBAs used in complex electronic systems (preferably surgical or regulated devices)
  • Ability to quickly ramp up on existing board designs and troubleshoot issues


Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Medical device experience (preferred but not required)
  • Exposure to FDA regulations and IEC standards (especially IEC 60601)
  • Cross-functional collaboration experience
  • Mentorship or leadership of junior engineers


Tools and Technology:

  • OrCAD preferred for schematic and PCB layout work
  • Other EDA tools acceptable if strong PCB design fundamentals are demonstrated
  • Basic understanding of software-hardware integration is helpful but not required


Industry Background:

  • Medical device industry preferred
  • Aviation also considered a strong regulated industry background
  • Automotive may be considered depending on experience
  • Overall priority is engineering depth over industry background




1. Mixed Signal Electrical System Design & Analysis

  • Proven expertise across end to end mixed signal board design: system architecture, circuit design, schematic capture, component selection, PCB layout, and design verification
  • Strong fundamentals in signal integrity, frequency domain analysis, and circuit theory
  • Ability to design, test, and integrate medium voltage and safety critical systems for medical devices

2. Medical Device Regulatory Compliance & Safety Standards (IEC 60601)

  • Hands on experience designing and testing regulated medical equipment
  • Strong working knowledge of IEC 60601 1 safety standard, regulatory assessments, and standards based verification testing
  • Experience handling component obsolescence, regulatory impact assessments, and compliance testing
 

3. Hardware Verification, Debugging & Reliability Engineering

  • Extensive use of lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic/network analyzers, DMMs) for system integration, debugging, and validation
  • Ability to develop test specifications, validate conformance, and ensure long term reliability
  • Experience analyzing customer complaints, identifying root causes, and driving design improvements without compromising requirements
 

  Education Required:

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4 years of electrical engineering experience
  • OR a Master's degree with a minimum of 2 years of electrical engineering experience
  • Years' Experience Required: Stated above
