We offer competitive compensation, incentives, excellent benefits and opportunities to build a rewarding career.Primary PurposeWorks independently on complex issues and large projects, performing overall field testing activities including installation/commissioning tests, technical investigations, field‑engineering analysis on malfunctioned electrical and electronic equipment to evaluate system maintenance and repair. Reviews and evaluates engineering construction and modification documents. The Testing Group focuses on transmission & distribution substation equipment, while Distribution Automation work focuses on equipment generally outside substations. Position may require extended hours, including 24×7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.Primary Duties and AccountabilitiesPerform testing assignments and provide guidance to newer engineers/technicians (e.g., preventive and corrective maintenance on all supervisory automation equipment installed on the distribution system). (60%)Evaluate the effectiveness of the current distribution system design (e.g., analyze and interpret complex field data gathered from tests). (10%)Evaluate, develop and implement new test equipment, tools and designs that have moderate financial and operational impact. (5%)Evaluate effectiveness of current technical systems and processes; participate on teams (e.g., work with Distribution engineering and manufacturers to implement new designs). (5%)Participate in training (e.g., attend ComEd, vendor and university classes; conduct training). (5%)Perform engineering tasks associated with critical engineering projects or a number of small projects with many complex features. Supports General Engineer function in DA. (15%)Independently or lead employees/contractors in commissioning electrical systems or equipment to be placed OnSystem. (15%)Perform preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance on distribution and transmission relays, communications equipment, power reclosers etc., using the guidelines listed in the Field Reference and the Maintenance Procedures manuals. (30%)Conduct basic hands‑on acceptance and in‑service testing of transmission and distribution equipment (e.g., transformers, circuit breakers, control and relay panels, SCADA, power line carrier, audio tone, etc.) testing per the guidelines included in the Field Reference Manual and the Maintenance Procedures Manuals. (15%)Assist with the restoration of malfunctioning transmission and distribution equipment, under emergency conditions, by performing the necessary hands‑on testing as outlined in the Field Reference and Maintenance Procedures manuals. (15%)Complete required paperwork (reports, test data, blueprint corrections, relay settings, etc.) as necessary to document work performed. (10%)Provide on‑the‑job and formal classroom training. (15%)Job ScopeConduct CMs, PMs, and project installation testing activities on power equipment.Minimum QualificationsA bachelor's degree in a technical field and 3years of technical experience, or an associate's degree and 5years of technical experience, or 7years of technical experience or relevant education in a non‑degree or non‑technical field.Successful completion of the TECH Test (a bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university exempts the TECH Test requirement).Broad knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform assignments for a specific discipline for maintenance, testing, installation or service.Testing Group positions require demonstrated ability to direct crews during maintenance or commissioning of equipment or systems.Distribution Testing positions require demonstrated ability using the OJE process to independently investigate and test/troubleshoot & commission distribution automation system equipment.Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills.Valid driver's license.Requires frequent travel to various company substations or other locations within the service territory.Must be available to work shifts and respond to emergency situations (7days per week / 24hours per day).Knowledge of complex field test equipment.Relevant education/experience may be acquired through job experiences or education programs similar to a formal technical degree program. Relevant experience includes military roles (transmission, distribution, gas, power systems, etc.), project management, journey‑level electrician or gas technician, field operations, or other utility‑related experience, as deemed relevant to the role.
