The senior environmental coordinator works with operating unit personnel to ensure awareness of and compliance with environmental permits, regulations, policies and procedures and requirements of the company, assisting the operating group in the development of solutions to environmental issues. Monitors chemical, physical and biological hazards that could be present. Investigates environmental incidents and reports incidents to appropriate regulatory agencies. Assists with the development and delivery of environmental procedures and training. Implements environmental compliance self-inspections and recommends appropriate action to facility management. Recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures and operations to minimize environmental incidents. Assists in maintaining facilities' environmental licenses, permits and authorizations. Maintains close contact with environmental health and safety, laboratory, operations and maintenance and other company departments. Assists in maintaining facilities' environmental licenses, permits and authorizations. Responsibilities include submittal of all environmental reports in advance of deadlines including gathering operational information necessary to track, monitor and complete reporting requirements.

Bachelor's degree in chemistry, environmental sciences, engineering, or related field and three to five years of environmental experience or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)

Five years of related experience.

Background working in all environmental media. Demonstrated air quality environmental industry experience is required. A broad diversity of environmental work experience in private industry, governmental, and consulting is preferred.

In-depth knowledge of applicable governmental laws and regulations. Ability to review and summarize complex regulations, with the demonstrated ability to implement environmental programs.

Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities. Must demonstrate the ability to coordinate projects and work with others effectively in a diverse working environment.

Excellent written and oral communications skills.

Detail oriented. Excellent organization skills. Ability to prioritize environmental responsibilities.

Intermediate to advanced knowledge of personal computer software applications, including spreadsheet, word processing and database experience.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, the general public and employees at all levels.

Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Capable of drawing and interpreting graphs.

Ability to define obscure and incomplete problems collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to conceptualize and develop creative alternatives to problem resolution. Ability to deal with abstract and concrete concepts.

Provides accurate input into the budget process and contributes to meeting the actual targets.

Attends work on a regular basis and supports the Company's employee policies and procedures, including workplace safety rules.

A valid California driver's license is required.

Develops and maintains an understanding of processes within business units, and assists the business unit in complying with environmental aspects through the company's environmental management systems. Identifies, develops and implements environmental initiatives for establishing external competitive advantages.

Investigates environmental issues and incidents and recommends steps to reduce the frequency of events and to resolve compliance issues. Recommends resolutions to integrate environmental assessments of facilities into facility operations to ensure compliance with environmental requirements.

Remains current on applicable environmental laws and regulations affecting the CalEnergy operations. Performs complex environmental work requiring considerable exercise of independent analysis and judgment in environmental services. Coordinates environmental activities of consulting firms.

Provides technical assistance to CalEnergy managers and supervisors. Maintains a specialized knowledge and expertise in air issues, and utilizes such knowledge in day-to-day functions.

Seeks and obtains required permits for operating the power operations for the CalEnergy facilities. Evaluates regulatory impact and develops environmental programs and processes. Provides technical input to assist in development of project planning.

Assists in development and delivery of environmental training and follows up with observations to ensure implementation and compliance with regulatory requirements.
