Overview:

Primary focus of role is to act as a regional actuary and provide guidance and assistance to account teams and clients as a subject matter expert across the region. Candidate will provide actuarial consulting and expertise using Gallagher financial decision making tools, participate in or conduct client-facing meetings when appropriate, speak effectively on behalf of the Financial & Actuarial Consulting team regarding core services, and act as a mentor/coach to others on the team.

List of Essential Duties: Business Skills/Knowledge

  • Apply advanced skills in order to provide and present monthly, quarterly and annual reports that measure client’s healthcare plans financial status, provide renewal projections, analyze cost sharing, evaluate vendor renewals, appropriately set IBNR levels, and additional actuarial work associated with US health plans
  • Speak to and explain concepts and economic conditions to account management team and clients regarding all deliverables
  • Provide mentorship and training to student actuaries and non-actuaries on the Financial & Actuarial Consulting team
  • Maintain knowledge of current economic conditions that impact clients, and ensure relevant communications are shared with other actuaries in region
  • Maintain proficiency and understanding of various proprietary models and tools
  • Analyze data from carriers on complex clients and provide recommendations to Account Management teams or to clients
  • Prepare, analyze and consult on various client deliverables, as defined by the scope of services of the Financial & Actuarial Consulting team
  • Conduct ad-hoc financial analysis for clients as assigned by management
  • Maintain workflow tracking application or logs, as established by management and departmental guidelines and protocol
  • Follow Gallagher Peer Review Standards, and assist with mentoring and promotion of peer review for all work conducted by Financial & Actuarial Consulting team members
  • Demonstrate competence with collection of required data and materials needed for the successful completion of various projects with minimal supervision
  • Serve as an expert resource to branch office staff and region, in order to contribute toward measurable ROI of services and retention of client
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations, communication materials, newsletters, etc. to internal staff and clients / prospects regarding underwriting policies and scope of services under the direction of the Divisional FAC Center of Excellence Leadership
  • Proficient and compliant with internal systems
  • Strong oral and written communications and presentations
  • Manage complex and shifting client work with escalated service issues to productive outcome
  • Have ability to peer review and make suggestions for materials and notices shared across the region and/or Divisional FAC COE Leadership
  • Independently and successfully manage client accounts and workload
  • Be able to effectively articulate the format, content, and logic of all financial analysis and underwriting tools and client reports
  • Demonstrate ability to work with broad and unscheduled assignments that require originality and ingenuity and to develop best practices from experiences
  • Presents new ideas/processes for client improved deliverables as well as improved team efficiency
About you:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree, (financial / math preferred)
  • Actuarial Designation: ASA with 10 years of experience or FSA with 8 years of experience in either Broker/Consultant or Carrier environment with a focus on healthcare
  • High degree of understanding of employee benefits principles and funding mechanisms

    

Technical Skills

  • Must show competency with Microsoft Office, and be able to work in a Windows environment
  • Must have advanced Microsoft Excel skills- Effectively write and use formulas
  • Must be highly organized in order to prioritize and meet deadline
  • Strong and effective follow through process
  • Must be able to persuade others to provide items needed to complete this job within pre-established timeframes
  • Must be familiar with carrier reporting systems
  • Ability to prioritize and effectively communicate to manage expectations       
  • Must have developed superior problem solving and analytical skills that allow tasks to be completed without supervision   
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks and to multi-task effectively so that  deadlines are met and schedules are maintained smoothly
