BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Sr. Financial Reporting Accountant is responsible for the preparation and support of the Company’s internal and external financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission requirements. This role requires strong technical accounting expertise and hands-on experience in upstream oil & gas accounting, including revenue recognition, reserves reporting, and full-cycle accounting under the successful efforts method.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the Company’s financial statements, supporting external audits, and executing complex accounting analyses in a fast-paced, operationally driven environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow.
- Assist in the financial close process, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Prepare supporting schedules and disclosures for external reporting, including SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, Form 4, Proxy Statement).
- Ensure financial reporting complies with U.S. GAAP and internal accounting policies.
- Perform technical accounting research and prepare memos related to:
- Revenue Recognition (ASC 606) for oil, gas, and NGL sales, Leases (ASC 842)
- Oil & Gas Accounting (ASC 932 / Successful Efforts Method)
- Various other technical matters as the need arises to support operations activity
- Support implementation of new accounting standards and policy updates.
- Assist in evaluating complex transactions and ensuring proper accounting treatment.
- Assist with full-cycle property, plant & equipment (PPE) accounting and other areas of financial reporting:
- Depletion calculation
- Capital vs. expense analysis
- Asset impairments and retirements under SEC Rule 4-10
- Derivative accounting analysis
- Statement of cash flow analysis
- Support external audits by preparing PBC schedules and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Assist in maintaining documentation for internal controls and SOX compliance.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial reporting documentation and support.

ROLE SPECIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) required or actively pursuing
- 2–4 years of progressive accounting experience, including:
- Public accounting experience (audit preferred)
- Experience with oil & gas companies (upstream and/or energy services)
- Hands-on experience supporting:
- Financial reporting and audit processes
- Full P&L and Balance Sheet exposure
- Experience in high-growth or operationally complex environments preferred
- Strong technical accounting and analytical skills
- Workiva experience for SEC filings is a plus, but not required
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proactive, ownership-driven mindset
- Full-time onsite role in Houston, TX
- Ability to meet tight deadlines during close cycles and project milestones

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The position requires manual dexterity to handle documents and operate office equipment such as copiers, printers, shredders, and computers. Also required is performing repetitive motions and extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking for varying lengths of time. The position requires interacting and communicating professionally with others via speaking, hearing and writing, learning new tasks, processes and concepts, thinking to solve problems, concentrating on required tasks, distinguishing color and depth perception and reading data, figures, electronic and hard copy documents.
Visual and manual dexterity is extremely important for this position. The job presents no work hazards beyond those normally present in an office environment. Incumbent will be subject to performing sedentary to light work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, or constantly lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, reach overhead for items, stoop, bend, and twist while working. Other physical activities include ability to utilize fingers to feel and grasp objects or work devices as needed and manual dexterity in the use of the hands, seeing, talking, hearing, performing repetitive motions and standing for long periods of time.
