Position Summary
The Senior Fire Alarm Technician is responsible for the advanced installation, programming, commissioning, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and servicing of commercial fire alarm and life safety systems. This role serves as a technical leader within the field operations team and is expected to mentor junior technicians while ensuring all work is completed in compliance with applicable codes, manufacturer specifications, and Company standards.
The ideal candidate will possess strong programming and diagnostic capabilities, NICET certification, and manufacturer certifications such as EST3 and EST4.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform advanced installation, programming, troubleshooting, inspection, testing, repair, and commissioning of commercial fire alarm systems
- Program and service complex fire alarm systems including EST3 and EST4 platforms
- Diagnose system failures and perform advanced troubleshooting of fire alarm, initiating device, and notification appliance circuits
- Read and interpret blueprints, riser diagrams, specifications, and sequence of operations
- Complete inspections and service work in accordance with NFPA 72, local AHJ requirements, manufacturer guidelines, and Company procedures
- Coordinate inspections and service schedules directly with customers and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs)
- Document deficiencies, repairs, inspections, and service activities accurately and thoroughly
- Communicate system issues, recommended repairs, and project updates to customers and internal management teams
- Mentor and train junior technicians and apprentices on installation practices, troubleshooting techniques, and code compliance
- Assist with project turnover, system commissioning, and customer demonstrations
- Support emergency service calls and after-hours response as required
- Maintain required certifications, licenses, and continuing education
- Promote a safe work environment and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures
- Adhere to all Company Standards and Procedures, including the Controlled Substances and Alcohol Standard
Required Qualifications & Certifications
Certifications
- NICET Level III or IV in Fire Alarm Systems preferred
- Manufacturer certifications required, including:
- Additional manufacturer certifications are strongly preferred
Experience & Technical Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on commercial fire alarm experience
- Advanced knowledge of fire alarm systems, system networking, and integrated life safety systems
- Strong understanding of NFPA 72, NEC, IBC, and local fire codes
- Proven experience programming, troubleshooting, and commissioning fire alarm systems
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to lead and mentor less experienced technicians
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work from ladders, lifts, and elevated platforms
- Ability to work in commercial, industrial, and construction environments
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, and reaching
- Occasional overnight travel may be required depending on project location
