Qualifications: Minimum of 25 year(s) of experience in hydrogeologic and modeling work. OR MA/MS Degree in Geoscience OR Previously completed training in groundwater modeling techniques
Duties: The enrollee will provide senior-level mentorship, technical guidance, and collaborative support for groundwater investigations at the New York Water Science Center, with a focus on staff working on Long Island?s Governor-funded Groundwater Sustainability Project, and will assist USGS staff in cooperator and stakeholder relations by providing background preparation, technical review, and internal coordination. The enrollee will guide junior and mid-level hydrologists responsible for assembling hydrogeologic datasets, constructing MODFLOW-based groundwater-flow models, developing calibration workflows, and preparing scenario analyses that support long-term groundwater sustainability planning on Long Island. The position will not serve as the primary modeler but will ensure staff deliverables meet USGS standards, align with stakeholder needs, and support decision-making by NYSDEC, county governments, and regional water suppliers. The work involves sustained engagement with project partners, review of technical products, and coaching staff through analytical, modeling, and documentation tasks.
