As a Senior Industrial Engineer for Robotics Manufacturing & Operational Excellence, you will define and lead the next generation of manufacturing operating systems across Amazon Robotics" production sites. This is not a traditional industrial engineering role - you will merge deep technical expertise in factory operations and lean systems with strategic continuous improvement leadership, serving as the architect of our Operational Excellence operating model and the driving force behind a culture of relentless improvement.

You will lead an Operational Excellence Council, work with and coach a team of Industrial and CI engineers, and champion digital lean practices that transform how we manufacture robotics at scale. If you thrive at the intersection of systems thinking, change leadership, and manufacturing innovation - and want to shape the future of robotics production - this role is for you.

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead the design, deployment, and governance of the Operational Excellence Operating System across manufacturing sites, integrating daily management, standard work, visual management, and tiered accountability structures.
  • Champion continuous improvement as a cultural transformation - acting as a change agent who partners with site leaders and managers to adopt and sustain new best practices, behaviors, and mindsets across the workforce.
  • Establish and lead an Operational Excellence Council with a team of Industrial and CI engineers, setting strategic direction, prioritizing improvement initiatives, and ensuring alignment to business objectives.
  • Drive digital lean transformation by leveraging data analytics, digital tools, and connected systems to enable real-time performance visibility, predictive insights, and automated waste identification across production operations.
  • Design and optimize manufacturing systems including process workflows, facility layouts, production line balancing, material flow, and capacity planning to maximize throughput, quality, and space utilization.
  • Develop and deploy the CI roadmap - facilitating kaizen events, value stream mapping, A3 problem solving, and structured improvement projects that deliver measurable impact to safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC) metrics.

A day in the life

You start your day reviewing real-time production performance dashboards, identifying emerging trends and opportunities. You participate in a tiered daily management review with site leadership, coaching managers on root cause thinking and countermeasure development. Mid-morning, you lead a cross-functional kaizen event focused on reducing changeover time for a new product introduction line.

In the afternoon, you work with your team of CI engineers to refine the digital lean roadmap - evaluating new tools for automated time studies and digital standard work. You close the day preparing a strategic update for the Operational Excellence Council, synthesizing improvement results and proposing the next quarter"s priority initiatives. Throughout, you are on the floor - observing, coaching, and reinforcing the behaviors that build a sustainable improvement culture.

About the Company

Amazon.com Inc

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
