Java Developer

Description of specific duties in a typical workday for this position:

OST is seeking a Java Full Stack Developer to support software modernization initiatives for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The developer will build, enhance, and maintain secure enterprise applications supporting mission-critical immigration and benefits-processing systems.

• Develop and maintain Java-based enterprise applications.
• Build backend services and RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
• Develop user interfaces using JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks such as React or Angular.
• Support legacy-system modernization and cloud-based application development.
• Write and maintain automated unit and integration tests.
• Participate in Agile development activities, code reviews, and technical-design discussions.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices.
• Troubleshoot application and production issues.
• Collaborate with government personnel and other technical teams.

Requirements (Years of experience, Education, Certifications):

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Five or more years of software development experience.
• Strong experience with Java, Spring, or Spring Boot.
• Experience developing RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Experience with React, Angular, or another modern front-end framework.
• Experience with SQL and relational databases.
• Familiarity with automated testing, Git, Agile, and CI/CD practices.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• S. citizenship and ability to meet USCIS suitability requirements.

Nice to Have (skills that are not required, but nice to have):

• Previous USCIS, DHS, or federal government experience.
• Experience with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
• Experience modernizing legacy enterprise applications.
• Familiarity with USCIS systems such as ELIS, Global, CLAIMS3, or Benefits Hub.
