Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced California-licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) with comprehensive experience across both field surveying and office-based professional survey work.
This is a hands-on technical position requiring experience with boundary research and determination, record-map research, deeds and legal descriptions, boundary and topographic surveys, field operations, survey calculations, technical documentation, and review of survey drawings and deliverables.
The Professional Land Surveyor will work across the full surveying process, coordinating field and office activities, independently researching and resolving technical issues, reviewing the work of others, and providing technical guidance and mentorship to survey staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and oversee professional land surveying activities from initial research through final survey deliverables.
- Conduct boundary research and record-map research to support property and right-of-way determinations.
- Research and review deeds, legal descriptions, recorded maps, survey records, and related property documentation.
- Analyze record information and field evidence to establish and verify property boundaries.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve boundary discrepancies and conflicting survey information.
- Perform and support boundary surveys and topographic surveys.
- Coordinate and support field-survey operations, including the collection and verification of field data.
- Review field notes, measurements, survey data, calculations, and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Perform office-based survey calculations and technical analysis.
- Prepare and review survey maps, drawings, legal descriptions, exhibits, calculations, and other survey documentation.
- Review survey drawings and technical deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with supporting records and field information.
- Coordinate survey activities between field crews and office personnel.
- Conduct independent research and technical analysis to resolve complex surveying questions.
- Provide technical guidance and direction to survey personnel.
- Train and mentor junior survey staff in professional surveying practices, research, calculations, documentation, and technical standards.
- Maintain responsibility for the quality and technical integrity of assigned survey work.
Required Qualifications
- Active California Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license.
- Significant professional land surveying experience.
- Demonstrated experience working in both field and office surveying environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with boundary research and property-boundary determination.
- Experience conducting and/or overseeing boundary and topographic surveys.
- Experience researching record maps, deeds, legal descriptions, and other survey/property records.
- Experience evaluating conflicting information and resolving boundary discrepancies.
- Strong understanding of field-survey operations and the ability to evaluate field information in an office environment.
- Experience performing survey calculations and technical analysis.
- Experience preparing and reviewing professional survey documentation, drawings, maps, and deliverables.
- Ability to independently research and resolve technical surveying issues.
- Experience coordinating work between field and office survey personnel.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to other survey professionals.

This position will serve as a technical resource within the surveying function. The Professional Land Surveyor should be comfortable working independently, making technically sound surveying determinations, reviewing the work of others, explaining the basis for survey decisions, and developing less-experienced staff.
The role requires someone who can move comfortably between field information and office analysis, understand the technical basis behind the work, and provide clear direction when surveying questions or discrepancies arise.
