Position Purpose:
The Sr. Learning Innovation Specialist (LIS) serves as the AI engineering and technology acceleration function for The Home Depot Learning Organization. This role operates at the intersection of learning design, artificial intelligence, automation, and software development to create scalable systems that transform how learning solutions are built, maintained, and delivered. The LIS designs, prototypes, develops, and optimizes AI-powered workflows, automation pipelines, and custom learning technologies that increase speed-to-market, improve learning operations, and enable instructional designers to focus on strategic learning architecture and business consulting. This role acts as both a hands-on builder and technical innovator, rapidly testing emerging technologies and creating practical solutions that improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the learning organization.
Key Responsibilities:
35% Artificial Intelligence Engineering & Automation - Design, develop, and maintain AI-powered workflows, applications, agents, and automation solutions that support learning content production and operational processes. Build and deploy custom AI solutions using modern development environments, LLM APIs, enterprise AI platforms, and automation technologies. Design and optimize prompt architectures, context management strategies, and multi-step AI workflows. Evaluate, prototype, and implement emerging AI technologies to improve learning development efficiency and quality. Develop automation solutions that integrate learning systems, business platforms, and operational toolchains to reduce manual effort and accelerate production timelines.
10% Documentation, Enablement & Knowledge Transfer - Create technical documentation, standard operating procedures, templates, and reusable assets that support team adoption and scalability. Translate complex technical concepts into accessible guidance for instructional designers and business stakeholders. Coach and enable learning professionals in the use of AI-enhanced workflows and emerging technologies. Contribute to the development of organizational best practices related to innovation, automation, and AI.
15% Learning Data, Analytics & Performance Optimization - Design and leverage learning measurement strategies that support business impact evaluation and continuous improvement. Utilize learning analytics, learner behavior data, and platform metrics to identify trends and opportunities. Support event tracking, telemetry design, and learning technology reporting capabilities. Evaluate pilot programs and innovation initiatives using quantitative and qualitative data.
20% Learning Innovation & Rapid Prototyping - Research, evaluate, and rapidly prototype emerging learning technologies, AI tools, and innovative delivery approaches. Conduct proof-of-concept initiatives and pilot programs to assess new technologies and workflows. Develop minimum viable products (MVPs) that demonstrate potential business impact and scalability. Experiment with new approaches to learning design, content development, and workplace performance support.
20% Learning Technology Architecture & Systems Integration - Design and maintain integrations between learning platforms, content systems, AI applications, and enterprise technologies. Leverage APIs, automation frameworks, and data exchanges to connect systems and streamline learning operations. Support enterprise learning ecosystems, including LMS, CMS, mobile learning, and content delivery platforms. Collaborate with technology partners and stakeholders to identify opportunities for system improvements and innovation.

Minimum Qualifications:
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Bachelor's degree in Instructional Technology, Computer Science, Education, Information Systems, Business, Human Resources, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
3+ years of experience in learning technology, instructional technology, software-enabled learning development, automation, AI solutions, or related fields
Experience developing technical solutions, automation workflows, or learning technology systems
Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills
Experience managing multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience developing solutions using Python, scripting languages, or similar development tools
Experience working within development environments such as VS Code, Jupyter Notebooks, or comparable platforms
Experience building, customizing, or deploying AI-powered applications, workflows, copilots, agents, or chatbots
Familiarity with generative AI platforms, large language models, prompt engineering, and enterprise AI solutions
Experience using workflow automation platforms such as Power Automate, Zapier, Make, or similar technologies
Familiarity with API integrations, JSON payloads, and data exchange concepts
Experience working with version control systems and collaborative development workflows
Experience with learning platforms, content management systems, mobile learning solutions, or enterprise LMS environments
Familiarity with learning standards such as SCORM or xAPI
Experience with Articulate 360, Rise, Storyline, Miro, or similar learning technologies
Experience in retail, frontline workforce environments, or large-scale enterprise organizations
