Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer


This role focuses on frontend mechanical design, development-to-production transition, and early manufacturing readiness for advanced LiDAR sensors. The individual in this role will work closely with optical, electrical, systems, and manufacturing partners to ensure mechanical designs are robust, manufacturable, and ready to scale. This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys bridging new product development and early production, interacting directly with suppliers and contract manufacturers, and owning mechanical design through release.

Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience designing complex hardware products such as semiconductor packaging, electro-optical sensor assemblies, imaging systems, laser products, LiDAR 
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and PDM. 
  • Automotive or Defense Industry experience (preferred)
  • Ability to take a product from development into production
  • Hands-on experience with process development, including: precision & wire bonding, microelectronics packaging, and opto-mechanical assemblies
  • Has worked directly with contract manufacturers and global suppliers
  • Strong application of DFM and DFA
Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop precision mechanical components and assemblies for LiDAR sensors
  • Support NPI activities, including process definition and early production builds
  • Develop and document assembly processes involving bonding, wire bonding, and microelectronics integration
  • Apply GD&T and tolerance analysis to ensure form, fit, and function
  • Collaborate with optical, electrical, and systems engineers to support early system integration
  • Work closely with contract manufacturers to support prototype/pilot builds
  • Interface with global suppliers on component design, fabrication, and quality expectations
  • Participate in formal design reviews, release processes, and engineering change management
  • Support environmental, reliability, and qualification testing activities
  • Serve as technical point of contact with manufacturing partners. May require international travel (up to 4x per year, 2 weeks per trip)
