Primary Purpose:
Provide strategic leadership for Exelon's security programs to protect personnel, company facilities and assets, and the communities we serve. The protection of facilities and assets will include the utility's transmission and distribution assets, gas assets, and company materials. The position develops and directs policies, procedures and programs to coordinate a safe and secure environment. This role is also responsible for acting as a liaison with industry counterparts, regulatory authorities, as well as local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies when necessary. local and federal law enforcement agencies when necessary.
Note: This is a hybrid position (in-office with remote flexibility). Employees are required to be in office at least three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).
This role is open to our offices within Chicago, IL, Oak Brook, IL; Kennett Square, PA; Philadelphia, PA; Baltimore, MD; Owings Mills, MD; or Washington DC.
You must be able to commute within our service area to be considered.
Primary Duties:
- Develop, communicate and implement security policies and/or procedures for the utility relative to employee security, building access, video surveillance, physical security, and other security functions. Routinely audit practices to ensure compliance. (25%)
- Enterprise Standard Owner (ESO) for NERC CIP-006 and CIP-014. The ESO is accountable for enterprise-wide governance, oversight, and consistency of the standard for all Operating Companies (OpCos) and shared services. Oversight of compliance with physical security requirements at Gas assets as directed by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). (20%)
- Contribute to and influence strategic direction and plans to ensure a protection program and structure is in place to safeguard critical infrastructure, personnel, and the communities we serve. (15%)
- Serve as a member of the Exelon Security leadership team. Interface with Real Estate & Facilitates, Transmission Ops, IT Security, Ethics & Compliance, Internal Audit professionals, etc., on cross-functional teams as appropriate to minimize risk to the utility and company. (15%)
- Confer with representatives of local government and industry physical security counterparts to benchmark and ensure cooperation and coordination of activities with law enforcement and other appropriate agencies. (10%)
- Select, manage and develop staff members. Develop key talent and provide opportunities for knowledge sharing and skill building. Evaluate performance and provide coaching as necessary. (10%)
- Oversee a network of vendors who safeguard the company's assets and physical safety of the employees and visitors. (5%)
Job Scope:
- This position has direct responsibility for the protection of Exelon's most valued assets, e.g., its personnel and critical infrastructure, via proactive, preemptive, and reactive strategies.
- The position is a direct report, to the Vice President, Corporate Physical Security, and will be expected to provide guidance and input on a variety of issues. The position may, at times, be called upon to represent the Vice President on matters having potential or real impact to the Company.
- The position interfaces with all levels of employees, including executives, and also deals with a high echelon audience outside Exelon, e.g., high-ranking industry counterparts, law enforcement, intelligence community, Homeland Security officials, etc.
- When properly executed, the position's functions will serve to mitigate threats to the Company, secure the Company's personnel and infrastructure assets, and respond to an array of emerging security issues, potentially impacting Exelon.
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least seven years of experience in Corporate Security with a Fortune 500 company or within a federal, state, and/or large local Law Enforcement agency, with progressively increasing levels of responsibility and at least three years in a management/supervisory role.
- Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, computer science, business administration, accounting, or job-related field.
- In lieu of degree, 10 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated financial management skills.
- Demonstrated liaison skills.
- Demonstrated skills in Security Planning.
- Demonstrated excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated strategy planning and customer engagement skills and experience leading organizations and personnel through change.
- Excellent consultative skills, including teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation.
- Advanced interpersonal skills, communications skills, and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to present and discuss complex technical information in a way that establishes rapport, influences others, and gains understanding and approval.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Post Graduate degree in a security or business administration related field.
- Strong liaison with Department of Homeland Security, and FBI/Joint Terrorism Task Force.
- Internationally recognized certifications in physical security protection (e.g., ASIS Certified Protection Professional, ASIS Physical Security Professional, etc.).
- Management experience in Corporate Security at a Fortune 500 company and/or a Law Enforcement Agency, with progressively increasing levels of responsibility and at least five years in a management role.
- Knowledge of security planning, NERC Compliance, policy development implementation, Corporate Crisis Management

- Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $150,400.00/Yr. – $206,800.00/Yr. plus an additional $25K in Long Term Incentive Plan annually.
