We’re looking for a Sr. COBOL Developer/Programmer for a hybrid role in Columbia, SC. Must be a current SC, NC, or GA resident.
Work Authorization: U.S. citizens and Green Card holders only. Sponsorship is not available for this role; no C2C or third-party candidates. Candidates must be able to work on our W2.
Skills & Qualifications:
- 10 years of experience with:
- Developing and maintaining complex, mission-critical applications in a Windows-based Client Server environment
- Computer system analysis, design, coding, testing, debugging, and implementation techniques and practices for developing new systems or modifying existing systems
- Coding and testing complex COBOL-based business systems in an Oracle SQL database and Windows-based client-server environment
- 6 years of experience with Visual and/or Micro Focus COBOL
- 5 years of experience with:
- Leading a technical software development team in planning and deployment of software systems
- Providing Level 3 (L3) production support
- Functioning as the primary contact with business units to develop and review business and technical specifications and ensure delivery of specified functionality
- Working knowledge of Visual COBOL v9
Preferred Skills:
- Oracle 19 SQL
- Familiarity with Microsoft Visual Studio .NET/C# development environment
- Experience working in a governmental environment
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze the Phoenix core business system and assigned tickets for development and/or system modification
- Take the lead in analyzing and proposing solutions to assigned tickets and projects
- Partner with business units to develop business specifications, translate those business specifications into technical specifications, and obtain business sign-off of specifications
- Code, test, promote, and interact with impacted users ensuring that solution meets requirements as documented in the specifications
- Production support for the Phoenix system
- Provide daily and weekly status to the development manager and business analyst(s)
Education/Certifications:
- Prefer a Bachelor's Degree In Computer Science or a closely related discipline with 10 years of experience
- Visual COBOL technical certifications
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in developing and maintaining complex COBOL-based applications in a Windows client-server environment. They should be proficient in Visual and/or Micro Focus COBOL and have strong leadership skills, including experience leading technical teams in software deployment. The candidate should also have a solid understanding of Oracle SQL, and experience in a governmental setting is preferred. A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred, along with relevant COBOL certifications.
The salary range for this position is $135,000 - $150,000.
