Senior Webscale Platform Engineer — Kubernetes / OpenShift 1.6 Migration

Fleet Modernization & Platform Upgrades

About the Role

The Webscale 1.6 migration is critical to modernizing our fleet of Webscale clusters. This upgrade ensures we maintain vendor-provided support for the platform and its add-on services. The migration includes both standard in-service upgrades and blue/green-style upgrades across the fleet.
This is a hands-on engineering role responsible for planning and executing those upgrades safely and repeatably, keeping the platform and add-on services on supported versions while minimizing service disruption.

What You'll Do

• Execute the Webscale 1.6 platform migration across the cluster fleet using both standard in-service upgrades and blue/green-style upgrades.
• Plan, validate, and perform Kubernetes / OpenShift cluster upgrades while minimizing service disruption.
• Keep the platform and its add-on services on vendor-supported versions throughout the migration.
• Deploy, configure, and support Kubernetes / OpenShift distributions across the fleet.
• Automate upgrade and operational workflows using Bash, Ansible, and Python.
• Manage configuration and changes through Git / GitLab / GitHub and CI/CD workflows.
• Troubleshoot platform, networking (NFS, SDN), storage, and add-on service issues.
• Document procedures and runbooks and collaborate with the operations and deployment teams.

You'll Need to Have

• Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
• Six or more years of relevant work experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
• Demonstrated Linux system administration skills.
• Automation experience with tools such as Bash, Ansible, and Python.
• Experience deploying, configuring, and supporting various distributions of Kubernetes or OpenShift.
• Working knowledge of the Kubernetes API Server.
• Knowledge of NFS and networking fundamentals.
• Working knowledge of Git, GitLab, GitHub, and CI/CD workflows.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

• Demonstrable experience with SDN-related concepts and protocols.
• Virtualization and Linux certifications.
• Experience deploying, configuring, and supporting OpenShift.
• Experience with OVN-Kubernetes.
• Experience with Multus CNI.
• Experience with a service mesh to manage Layer 7 networking.
• Experience with Service Proxy for Kubernetes.
• Experience with NetApp storage solutions.
• Experience with object storage (SwiftStack / MinIO).
• Working knowledge of OpenStack.
