Amazon is searching for an innovative and solutions-oriented engineering project leader to work on developing, designing and delivering next generation, world-class fulfillment, delivery and transportation systems.

Amazon Urban Fulfillment team is seeking an experienced Industrial Designer to join the Design Engineering team. Our team is supporting the rapid expansion of Rural Delivery and Sub Same Day delivery.

In this role, the Engineer will drive process engineering, building design, and standardization across our Last Mile delivery network. This individual will be responsible for designing and optimizing the delivery and sortation network, enabling operations processes to meet safety, customer experience, quality, and cost goals. The candidate will have to scope all options ranging from scrappy to automated and provide data to support options. Responsibilities will include creating and maintaining optimal drawings of material handling equipment, work areas, and storage equipment as well as design support for future initiatives. Drawings will require a high level of detail in both plan views as well as corresponding elevation views.

A successful candidate will be able to collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to generate high-quality, cost-effective solutions in very short periods of time, and simultaneously manage multiple projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors and vendors.

Key job responsibilities

  1. Work with key stakeholders on the criteria for design and expansion

  2. Develop design and analytical models (excel, simulation etc.) to show feasibility and operational cost of design

  3. Ability to generate and implement design process with an aim to articulate operational and safety criteria in design development

  4. Review design and supporting technical documents for approvals

  5. Review existing designs to identify value engineering opportunities and optimization

  6. Ability to easily communicate, present and write technical documents/drawings

  7. Project manage and communicate project with all stakeholders via project management tools (BIM)

  8. Ability to train and articulate standards across cross functional teams.

  9. Ability to travel 25% of the time

A day in the life

  • Conduct detailed design reviews with vendors to develop the designs of complex and optimal storage and processing solutions.
  • Deep dive into CAD models to develop best in class solution from the perspective of operations, maintenance, safety and reliability.
  • Visit vendor facilities to conduct proof-of-concept and Factor Acceptance Tests of designed equipments.
  • Visit Amazon Last Mile Stationss to conduct tests on equipment and collect data and drive continuous improvement through data-drive decisions
  • Carry out continuous improvement pilots on the existing network and make changes to improve the customer experience
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders and leaders through business reviews and white papers
