Position Overview
Ultimate Staffing Services is actively seeking a dedicated and experienced Sr. Payroll Specialist to join their client's team in California. This role is a fantastic opportunity for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a dynamic environment. The position is on-site in Pasadena and is a temp-to-hire opportunity. The Sr. Payroll Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing under the guidance of the Payroll Manager and Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Processing weekly payroll, including data entry of time, checking for errors, and preparing paychecks and direct deposit files.
- Preparing union fringe benefit reports, compiling data, preparing check requests, and submitting reports.
- Maintaining pay and fringe benefit information using JDE and HCM systems.
- Providing timely responses to general questions, payroll issues, and EDD benefit/new hire inquiries.
- Inputting new and rehire employee personnel information into the system.
- Performing general office duties such as filing, copying, and distribution.
- Ordering stop payments and preparing manual checks.
- Researching payroll job cost corrections.
- Preparing benefit reports and inputting benefit deductions.
- Reconciling payroll prior to transmission and validating confirmed reports.
- Understanding proper taxation of employer-paid benefits and ensuring compliance with Federal and State wage and hour laws.
- Processing correct garnishment calculations and compliance.
- Performing compliance checks for unclaimed property payroll checks.
- Processing accurate and timely year-end reporting when necessary (W-2, W-2c, etc.).
- Answering payroll-related questions from Human Resources and Accounting departments and resolving discrepancies.
- Completing other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Payroll Manager.
Qualifications
- Experience processing with and/or managing an in-house Payroll system, such as Oracle JD Edwards.
- 5+ years of previous Payroll experience.
- 5+ years of data entry experience into an accounting/payroll system.
- Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel is required.
- Accurate 10-key by touch with 9000 ks/min and demonstrated 99.9% data-entry accuracy.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are required, with the ability to investigate, document, and resolve issues professionally.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines with minimal errors.
Required Work Hours
Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM, on-site in Pasadena, CA.

Additional Details
Salary: $26.92 - $33.65 per hour
