Sr. Process Project Engineer III Rochester, NY Work Location Type: In-Office with the opportunity to work hybrid or remote Perm Role Responsible for end-to-end engineering and delivery of custom-designed modular chemical process systems including reactors, distillation, wiped film evaporation, and other process systems. Role spans process design, detailed engineering, project execution, construction support, commissioning, and post-startup support. Responsibilities Process Engineering Develop project basis of design with customer/AEs including standards, regulations, and process requirements Prepare Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and complete Mass & Energy Balances (MEB) and utility calculations Develop and support Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) with CAD team Size and specify equipment (reactors, heat exchangers, evaporators, tanks, pumps, vacuum systems, etc.) Select and specify instrumentation (sensors, transmitters, valves, control elements, etc.) Size piping components (pipes, valves, fittings, strainers, hoses, expansion elements, etc.) Perform pressure relief scenario analysis and relief device sizing (PRVs/rupture disks) Participate in HAZOP/PHAs and customer technical reviews Support startup, commissioning, and post-startup troubleshooting at customer sites Project Engineering & Execution Lead or support project execution depending on size; review/approve work of other engineers when required Participate in internal/customer meetings, model reviews, and design reviews Coordinate with equipment engineering and operations teams for reactors and systems delivery Prepare specifications, bid packages, evaluate vendor quotations, and procure equipment/instrumentation/piping items Guide CAD team in 3D model development and ensure accurate layouts and drawings (GA, isometrics, BOMs, structural, equipment layouts) Prepare FAT/SAT documentation and operating manuals (BOD, operating procedures, equipment/instrument/line/valve lists, spare parts lists, vendor documentation) Prepare fabrication bid packages, select fabricators, and support modular system construction execution Construction & Commissioning Travel to vendors/fabricators for inspection of equipment and module fabrication Ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, and quality requirements Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and resolve punch-list items Project Management Maintain project schedule and Technical Query Register (TQR) Manage meetings, minutes, documentation control, and transmittals Review customer specifications and manage project files Develop and implement change orders and cost impacts Support post-project reviews and continuous improvement Other Duties Support Application Engineers with equipment sizing, costing, and layout estimation as needed Requirements B.S. in Chemical Engineering Minimum 12 years of chemical process and systems engineering experience Strong knowledge of heat transfer, fluid flow, mass transfer, and process design fundamentals Experience in equipment, instrumentation, and piping design/selection Project engineering and execution experience required; project management experience preferred Ability to perform engineering calculations and interpret PFDs, P&IDs, and technical documents Proficiency in MS Office; Aspen Plus, Aspen Exchanger Design, and MS Project preferred Strong communication, documentation, and coordination skills across customers, vendors, and internal teams Ability to work independently and in team environments Occasional travel to vendor and customer sites required Metasys Technologies is an equal opportunity employer.
