Overview

Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO&I, the Engineering Procurement & Construction (EPC) organization is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft's cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for a passionate, high-energy individual to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world's largest online services.

The Equipment Sourcing & Procurement Manager for Skidding & Modularization is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for pre-assembled, skid-mounted, and modular data center infrastructure systems. This role ensures continuity of supply, cost optimization, supplier performance, and risk mitigation to support the delivery of modular and skidded electrical and mechanical systems across hyperscale data center programs.

The position partners closely with Engineering, Category Management, Construction, Capacity Planning, & Finance to forecast demand, negotiate project level agreements, manage vendor relationships, and ensure the timely delivery of factory-built, site-ready equipment packages to data center sites across the Americas.

Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates must relocate or reside within 50 miles of Redmond, WA, office location.

This role is eligible for hybrid work of 3 days minimum per week.

Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing & Procurement

  • Develop and own procurement strategies for skidded and modular equipment categories, including switchgear skids, generator sets, UPS modules, power distribution assemblies, chiller skids, and prefabricated mechanical and electrical (E&M) packages.

  • Conduct project assessments, regional segmentation, and cost modeling to identify optimization opportunities across modularization scope and factory build cycles.

  • Lead RFx processes (RFI/RFP/RFQ) from requirements gathering through supplier selection and contract execution, with specific focus on skid fabricators, module integrators, and specialty assembly vendors.

  • Drive total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis, benchmarking modular build approaches versus stick-built alternatives, and develop long-term sourcing roadmaps in partnership with Category teams.

Supplier Management & Performance

  • Establish and manage relationships with skid fabricators, modular integrators, and OEM equipment suppliers, ensuring quality, factory capacity, delivery performance, and continuous improvement.

  • Conduct weekly supplier reviews (WSRs), factory readiness assessments, risk reviews, and corrective action plans tied to program milestones.

  • Partner with suppliers on New Product Introduction (NPI), factory scaling, and engineering alignment to support repeatable, standardized modular designs across regional programs.

Contracting & Negotiation

  • Negotiate commercial terms specific to modular and skid fabrication scopes, including project specific requirements, factory acceptance testing (FAT) requirements, phased delivery schedules, and delivery provisions.

  • Enforce master purchasing agreements and service-level expectations aligned to program delivery timelines and construction milestones.

  • Mitigate supply chain and geopolitical risks through multi-sourcing, strategic inventory positioning, and long-term fabrication capacity agreements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work with Data Center Engineering and Modularization teams to translate technical and standardization requirements into procurement specifications and fabrication packages.

  • Coordinate with Construction & Planning teams to align skid and module delivery schedules with site readiness, crane picks, and installation milestones.

  • Partner with Cost & Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking specific to modular scope and fabrication-driven cost structures.

Execution & Supply Chain Management

  • Oversee purchase order execution, factory coordination, logistics planning with site-based procurement teams.

  • Identify and resolve supply disruptions, long-lead material constraints, and fabrication delays that impact program schedules.

  • Monitor global supply chain trends, including steel, copper, switchgear components, and freight, and adjust modular sourcing strategies to protect program delivery timelines.

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

  • Masters degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 3+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
  • OR Bachelors degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 4+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations,
  • or relevant sales-related roles OR equivalent experience.

Background Check Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter

Additional or preferred qualifications

  • Masters degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 6+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
  • OR Bachelors degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 8+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
  • OR equivalent experience.

Sourcing Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800.00 - $234,700.00 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200.00 - $261,000.00 per year.
