Job Summary

The Senior Product Engineer is responsible for the technical definition, development, integration, and lifecycle support of modular, rack‑ and row‑based IT infrastructure solutions. This role serves as a key technical interface to customers, translating customer requirements into robust, compliant, and manufacturable product solutions while ensuring alignment with internal engineering standards and product roadmaps.

The Product Engineer works cross‑functionally with Product Management, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Sales, and Quality teams to ensure solutions meet customer expectations for performance, reliability, serviceability, and scalability. The role combines hands‑on engineering execution, systems thinking, and direct customer engagement throughout the product and project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical definition of product solutions, ensuring form, fit, function, and interoperability across mechanical, electrical, and thermal subsystems.
  • Analyze and document system‑level requirements for rack‑, row‑, and aisle‑based solutions, including mechanical architecture, interfaces, and integration constraints.
  • Apply and help evolve internal engineering standards, guidelines, and best practices to ensure consistent, scalable product designs.
  • Support New Product Development (NPD) activities, including concept evaluation, requirements definition, design reviews, validation, and release.
  • Validate engineering documentation, BOMs, system layouts, compatibility matrices, and integration guidelines.
  • Act as a technical point of contact for customers, participating in customer meetings, workshops, design reviews, and solution presentations.
  • Translate customer specifications, site requirements, and operational needs into compliant, manufacturable product solutions.
  • Support pre‑sales activities by contributing technical input to proposals, quotations, drawings, and solution narratives.
  • Address customer technical questions, deviations, and change requests throughout the sales and execution lifecycle.
  • Represent the "voice of the customer" within engineering by providing structured feedback into product improvements and roadmap discussions.
  • Ensure product designs comply with applicable mechanical, electrical, and safety standards (e.g., ASME, ASHRAE, IEC, UL, ISO, NEC, regional codes).
  • Support and communicate updates to internal standards or "standards playbooks," ensuring practical application within active projects.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments (FMEA), and root cause analysis for quality, manufacturability, and field issues.
  • Partner with Quality and Manufacturing teams to support production issues, validation testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work closely with Product Management to align technical solutions with product strategy and customer segmentation.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Supply Chain on component selection, sourcing strategies, and production readiness.
  • Coordinate with Electrical, Thermal, and Systems Engineering to ensure cohesive system‑level solutions.
  • Support global engineering teams and suppliers as needed, contributing to consistent technical outcomes across regions.

Requirements

  • BSME, BSEE, or a related engineering discipline; master's degree or Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
  • 7-15 years of experience in product engineering, systems engineering, or new product development, preferably within IT infrastructure, data center, or industrial equipment environments.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with customers in a technical role (e.g., solution development, design reviews, technical support).
  • Experience in applying engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and compliance processes to commercial products.
  • Exposure to full product lifecycle activities: concept, development, release, production, and sustaining engineering.
  • Strong understanding of electrical, thermal, and mechanical systems and interfaces.
  • Ability to evaluate system compatibility, serviceability, manufacturability, and reliability.
  • Experience creating and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and BOMs.
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or structured problem‑solving methodologies is beneficial.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to customers and non‑engineering stakeholders.
  • Comfortable presenting and defending technical solutions in customer‑facing environments.
  • Systems thinker with attention to detail and a pragmatic, solution‑oriented mindset.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a fast‑paced, matrixed environment.
  • Collaborative team player with the confidence to take ownership and drive outcomes.

What Success Looks Like in This Role

  • Customers experience a knowledgeable, responsive technical partner who understands their needs and constraints.
  • Product solutions are well‑integrated, standards‑compliant, manufacturable, and aligned with the broader product portfolio.
  • Engineering standards are applied consistently but pragmatically, improving quality and speed without over‑constraining innovation.
  • Cross‑functional teams trust the Product Engineer as a reliable technical anchor throughout the product and project lifecycle.
