Responsibilities:
- Serves as a role model for professional nursing practice by functioning as a recognized unit leader through clinical expertise, education, specialized resource support, and/or evidence-based practice.
- Consistently provides constructive feedback to healthcare team members and participates in the nursing peer review process.
- Promotes changes that enhance patient care quality and the unit environment and actively participates in or leads successful teams.
- Demonstrates advanced clinical assessment, critical thinking, and analytical skills within the framework of Relationship Based Care.
- Participates in shared governance initiatives at both the unit and hospital levels.
- Applies the nursing process to create a healing environment and develops individualized plans of care in partnership with patients and families.
- Effectively communicates patient conditions, care recommendations, and practice improvements to the interdisciplinary team.
- Maintains comprehensive documentation that supports continuity of care and patient outcomes.

- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required.
- BSN preferred.
- Must obtain and maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher rating on the Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluation.
- Annual completion of one professional contribution aligned with department, hospital, or system goals and approved by the Unit Director through UPMC's My Nursing Career Ladder or certification.
- Certification is not required for nurses who hold a Master's degree in Nursing or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP.
- If a BSN is held, a Master's degree in a related field may be substituted for certification.

Licensure, Certifications & Clearances
- Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN in the state where the facility is located, or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with that state.
- CPR certification required within 30 days of hire and must meet American Heart Association (AHA standards, including both didactic and hands-on skills demonstration components.
