Job Title: Senior Project Engineer, HVAC

Job Summary:

The Senior Project Engineer, HVAC leads the design, analysis, and delivery of complex heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, ensuring technical excellence, code compliance, energy efficiency, and alignment with client and project objectives. They provide technical leadership, mentor engineering staff, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and serve as a trusted advisor throughout the project lifecycle from planning and design through construction and commissioning. They may also act as the Engineer of Record.

Responsibilities:

Engineering Design: Provides leadership and performs design, selection, scheduling, sizing and specifications of HVAC systems while applying appropriate industry and departmental design practices.

Project Management: Collaborates with project team members integrating HVAC systems with architecture and other engineered systems to meet milestones and deadlines. Provides guidance with estimating, ensures codes are met, is proficient with purchasing and scheduling of HVAC equipment and systems.

Required Competencies:

  • Possess and apply the knowledge and skills required to meet performance expectations of engineering appropriate for the project phase and identified scope of work.
  • Up-to-date awareness and understanding of best practices, technologies, products/services, events, trends and regulatory issues that have an impact on the healthcare industry, as well as other related services offered by ERDMAN.
  • Adept in the process of planning, coordinating and controlling a project from beginning to completion to meet the client's requirements and produce a functionally and financially viable project.
  • Highly capable in planning, monitoring and controlling projects through optimum use of talent, budget, time and materials, including contributing to operational and tactical plans by following a systematic process of documenting objectives and decisions.

Relevant Experience & Training:

  • Five to eight years of mechanical engineering design experience
  • Understanding of HVAC applications of heat transfer, thermos and fluid dynamics sciences.
  • Highly skilled in HVAC systems and equipment design and operations with emphasis in healthcare facility applications.
  • Advanced knowledge of building energy use, indoor environmental quality and sustainability, building materials, refrigerants, and common HVAC systems and equipment, procedures for production of construction documents, building codes and other institutional requirements applied to healthcare and senior living.
  • Capable of performing energy analysis and computer modeling of HVAC systems
  • Proficient with MS Office, Autodesk Revit MEP, AutoCAD and Trane Trace 700

Education:

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.

Certifications and/or Licenses:

  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
  • LEED AP Certification preferred
  • EDAC Certification preferred
  • ASHRAE Certified Healthcare Designer preferred

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a professional, creative, open office environment with business casual attire.
  • Hours of work will generally be during regular business hours and will average 2,300 hours per year.
  • Due to our many project deadlines, great flexibility in scheduling is both required of you and returned to you.
  • 10% National travel is required.
