Sr. Project Engineer Lead project ownership for packaging equipment design, automation solutions, and continuous improvement initiatives across diverse industrial sectors. Manage design, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, installation, start‑up, troubleshooting, and documentation while coordinating with vendors, contractors, and clients.Responsibilities Evaluate and design packaging equipment to develop and modify automated solutions.Act as project lead/SME on packaging and equipment activities across industries such as pharmaceutical, consumer, beverage, food, and industrial.Identify and troubleshoot packaging problems, supporting maintenance mechanics to resolve issues and improve productivity.Complete packaging line design and development—estimation, justification, budgeting, scheduling, design, implementation, acquisition, installation, start‑up, troubleshooting, and documentation—ensuring compliance with local, state, federal, and international regulations.Develop equipment specifications, support system designs, and bid analyses.Lead communication with OEMs and contractors to implement cutting‑edge automation solutions.Provide engineering solutions for continuous improvement using tools such as Change Control, ROI analysis, and industry‑standard procedures.Evaluate existing packaging operations, identify opportunities, and drive projects that deliver immediate ROI and productivity gains.Specify required tooling and packaging equipment within designated timelines.Strengthen relationships with clients and team members through daily engagement.Qualifications Minimum 4+ years of experience in packaging solutions, mechanical design, and project engineering.Experience in at least one of the following industries: beverage, food, consumer products, pharmaceutical, or industrial.Deep understanding of all types of packaging equipment—filling, secondary packaging, palletizing—across multiple industries; experience with fully integrated lines preferred.Demonstrated daily problem‑solving capabilities, strategic and critical thinking.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Excellent project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and team leadership.Cross‑functional networking and influencing ability.Ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive amid ambiguity.Strong desire and aptitude for client relationship building.Knowledge of FDA regulations and documentation requirements (plus).Proven track record of closing out projects successfully and preparing for future opportunities.Experience writing scope of work documentation and managing contractors on site.Proficient in ACAD, SOPs, and cGMPs; understanding of automation control systems (PLC, HMI, VFDs).Bachelor of Science in Engineering required.Willing and able to travel as necessary for project installation, start‑up, client meetings, training, industry seminars, conventions, or analogous duties.Equal Opportunity Employer Barry‑Wehmiller is an equal opportunity employer.
