Senior Public Relations Specialist - Value-Based Enterprise

General Summary - (Hybrid- 3 days in Detroit office)

The Senior Public Relations Specialist supports Henry Ford Health System by developing and executing innovative PR, communications, and storytelling strategies that elevate the organization's mission-especially within its Value-Based Enterprise.

This includes supporting key entities such as:

  • Health Alliance Plan (HAP)
  • Populance (population health)
  • Community Care Services
  • Mosaic Clinically Integrated Network

In this role, you'll act as a strategic partner, project manager, and storyteller, driving communications that position Henry Ford Health as a leader in value-based care. You'll collaborate closely with communications, marketing, and executive leaders while enhancing brand visibility and supporting system growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic PR and storytelling plans across clinical care, research, education, community impact, and philanthropy
  • Build and maintain strong media relationships; actively pitch stories to national, local, and industry outlets
  • Create engaging content (press releases, digital, social, internal, and external communications)
  • Serve as project manager for major communications initiatives and campaigns
  • Partner with internal leaders to provide strategic counsel and alignment on messaging
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure consistent, integrated communication strategies
  • Track and measure engagement and performance metrics
  • Support media monitoring, distribution, and reporting
  • Assist with media events and public-facing opportunities
  • Support thought leadership and executive visibility strategies (media, speaking, op-eds)
  • Develop content strategies for diverse audiences (consumers, media, internal stakeholders)
  • Participate in on-call support during emergency communications situations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, or related field
  • 5+ years of PR/communications experience with increasing responsibility
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and digital communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to work with leaders at all levels
  • Ability to translate complex medical concepts for broad audiences
  • Passion for storytelling, curiosity, and a collaborative mindset
  • Strong project management skills; able to manage multiple priorities
  • Strategic, creative, detail-oriented, and innovative thinker

Preferred/Additional Skills

  • Experience with media monitoring and distribution tools
  • Knowledge of healthcare, value-based care, or population health
  • Ability to analyze data and measure communications impact

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in public relations, communications, or related field with increasing responsibility
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional oral, written, and digital communication skills
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent people skills; able to work effectively with a broad cross-section of leaders
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to distill and communicate complex medical and other concepts to diverse audiences
