Title: Sr Reliability Engineer (Technical Leader)
Location : Cache County, UT or Dallas/Ft Worth, TX regions (hybrid, onsite 3x/wk)

Position Summary
Our client, a global leader in advanced autonomous and robotic solutions across multiple industries, is seeking a senior-level Reliability Engineering leader who will be responsible for establishing and leading an enterprise reliability engineering program for complex electromechanical systems. This role defines reliability strategy, develops validation methodologies, establishes reliability requirements, and serves as the subject matter expert for durability, availability, maintainability, and system performance. Working across multiple engineering disciplines, the engineer drives reliability throughout the product lifecycle by leading failure investigations, developing environmental and durability test strategies, influencing system design, and providing technical guidance to engineering teams. This is a technical leadership role with broad organizational influence rather than direct people management.
 
Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead a comprehensive reliability engineering program across multiple product platforms.
  • Develop reliability, availability, maintainability, and durability (RAM) requirements for complex electromechanical systems.
  • Define reliability validation strategies, test plans, acceptance criteria, and reliability growth objectives.
  • Lead reliability analyses including FMEA, FMECA, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), reliability block diagrams, and risk assessments.
  • Develop environmental, durability, accelerated-life, and qualification testing strategies for harsh operating environments.
  • Recommend and implement appropriate reliability testing capabilities, including evaluation of in-house versus third-party testing resources.
  • Lead complex root cause investigations and drive corrective and preventive actions across mechanical, electrical, software, systems, manufacturing, supplier, and test organizations.
  • Analyze laboratory, field, maintenance, and operational data to identify failure trends, reliability risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Perform statistical reliability analyses including Weibull analysis, life-data analysis, failure-rate estimation, and reliability growth modeling.
  • Evaluate system designs for durability, fault tolerance, serviceability, environmental robustness, and long-term reliability.
  • Support component qualification, supplier reliability assessments, and prototype-to-production transitions.
  • Participate in design reviews, validation reviews, and product release readiness assessments.
  • Develop reliability metrics, dashboards, engineering standards, and technical documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers supporting reliability, validation, and verification activities.
 
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Reliability Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in reliability engineering, durability testing, product validation, verification, failure analysis, or product assurance (exceptional candidates with 7+ years and demonstrated technical leadership will be considered).
  • Proven experience establishing or leading an end-to-end reliability engineering program for complex electromechanical or mechatronic systems.
  • Extensive experience with FMEA, FMECA, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), root cause analysis, corrective action methodologies, and reliability risk assessment.
  • Experience developing reliability requirements and validation strategies for integrated hardware and software systems.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental, durability, accelerated-life, and qualification testing, including vibration, shock, temperature cycling, humidity, dust, water ingress, corrosion, and mechanical loading.
  • Experience specifying reliability test equipment, laboratory environments, and external testing strategies.
  • Strong understanding of reliability statistics, Weibull analysis, life-data analysis, probability distributions, and reliability modeling.
  • Proficiency with engineering analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, Minitab, JMP, or Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction across cross-functional engineering organizations without direct supervisory responsibility.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, technical writing, and problem-solving skills.
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related engineering discipline.
  • Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience supporting autonomous systems, robotics, heavy equipment, automotive, electric vehicles, aerospace, defense, agricultural equipment, or other rugged electromechanical products.
  • Experience with Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety (RAMS) analysis.
  • Knowledge of HALT, HASS, Design of Experiments (DOE), physics-of-failure methodologies, and reliability growth programs.
  • Experience with embedded systems, sensors, vehicle controls, functional safety, and safety-critical systems.
  • Experience performing supplier reliability assessments and component qualification.
  • Familiarity with Jama, Jira, PLM, FRACAS, or similar engineering lifecycle and requirements management tools.
