Sr Research Assistant / Neuroradiology Department

Within the Neuroradiology department, the Senior Research Assistant provides specialized research support, laboratory oversight, equipment coordination, and compliance management for research activities. The Senior Research Assistant collaborates with investigators, researchers, and laboratory staff to facilitate successful study execution, maintain laboratory operations, and ensure adherence to institutional standards.

The Senior Research Assistant plays a key role in supporting research initiatives that contribute to advancements in diagnostic imaging and cancer care across UT MD Anderson.

The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in the natural sciences or a related field, experience supporting scientific or experimental research activities, and the ability to manage laboratory operations in a research environment. Advanced education in a basic science discipline or a medical degree is preferred. Experience with research methodologies, laboratory equipment, statistical analysis, manuscript preparation, coding, and collaborative research support is beneficial.

Responsibilities

Experimental Support & Research Assistance

• Assist with diagnostic research experiments, including sample preparation, imaging studies, and data collection
• Maintain detailed laboratory records of protocols, methodologies, and research results
• Operate and maintain imaging and analytical equipment used in neuroradiology research
• Collaborate with researchers and investigators to troubleshoot experiments and optimize protocols
• Ensure compliance with institutional guidelines and safety requirements during research activities
• Utilize Python and basic coding skills to support research initiatives
• Support statistical analysis activities using SPSS or R
• Contribute to manuscript preparation and scientific publications
• Use EPIC to support research-related workflows
• Culture and maintain tissue culture cells in a biological safety hood and clean incubator

Inventory & Equipment Management

• Serve as property controller for all inventoried laboratory equipment
• Maintain organized inventories of laboratory supplies, reagents, and consumables
• Monitor inventory levels and coordinate timely purchasing activities
• Maintain records for equipment maintenance, calibration, and service schedules
• Coordinate equipment purchases and service activities with vendors and procurement teams
• Assist with capital equipment tracking, budgeting, and asset documentation
• Update equipment manuals and records and resolve equipment tracking issues
• Ensure new equipment is appropriately tagged prior to use
• Assist with Asset Transfer documentation for interdepartmental equipment exchanges
• Remove malfunctioning equipment from service and coordinate repairs through vendors, Biomedical Engineering, or Biosafety

Lab Space & Compliance Management

• Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization, and safety standards
• Ensure compliance with institutional policies, biosafety regulations, and radiation safety requirements
• Assist with preparation and revision of standard operating procedures and safety documentation
• Initiate and complete work requests for laboratory repairs and modifications
• Provide cost estimates for requested laboratory changes
• Coordinate laboratory inspections and audits
• Maintain regulatory compliance documentation and records
• Oversee proper storage of chemicals and biological reagents
• Maintain records of required safety training

General Lab Operations

• Order laboratory supplies for Principal Investigators and reconcile purchases with the Associate Financial Analyst
• Assist with organization and documentation of laboratory meetings, presentations, and collaborations
• Manage research data organization and archival processes
• Support grant applications by providing laboratory data and documentation
• Support regulatory submissions with required laboratory information
• Communicate effectively with principal investigators, faculty, administrative staff, and research personnel
• Perform additional duties as assigned

EDUCATION

• Required: Bachelor's Degree Natural sciences or related field.
• Preferred: Master's Degree Basic sciences.
• Preferred: Medical Degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

• Required: 3 years Scientific or experimental research work experience. or
• Required: 1 year Required experience with preferred degree.
