  • This position requires an Active Secret Clearance for consideration*

Zachary Piper Solutions is currently seeking a Sr. RHEL Engineer to support a United States Air Force (USAF) program based in Chantilly, Virginia. This position is a full-time role that will be fully onsite. This position is critical in safeguarding enterprise systems and ensuring compliance with stringent Department of Defense security standards. As a Sr. RHEL Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in secure system configuration, STIG compliance validation, and large-scale enterprise endpoint management within a high-stakes environment supporting approximately 50,000 global endpoints.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Configure systems in accordance with DISA STIG requirements and ensure enterprise-wide compliance.
  • Validate, assess, and report STIG compliance across systems using tools such as SteelCloud ConfigOS.
  • Administer and maintain applications in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments.
  • Develop, maintain, and debug shell scripts to support application and system management.
  • Support large-scale endpoint deployments and compliance efforts across global environments.
  • Manage and evaluate web servers, application servers, containerized applications, and database systems to ensure secure configurations without disrupting services.
  • Work within virtualized and cloud environments including Hyper-V and Microsoft Azure.
  • Support and maintain Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) components.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ensure operational success and compliance.
  • Communicate effectively (written and verbal) in a mission-driven environment.

Requirements:

  • Active SECRET security clearance
  • 10+ years of relevant experience (Bachelor's degree may substitute for 5 years of experience)
  • Strong expertise in RHEL system administration and application support
  • Deep knowledge of DISA STIG implementation, validation, and troubleshooting
  • Experience with enterprise tools such as SteelCloud ConfigOS
  • Proficiency with scripting (e.g., Bash, Shell scripting)
  • Working knowledge of cloud and virtual platforms (Azure, Hyper-V)
  • Understanding of PKI concepts and implementation

Desired Qualifications:

  • DoD 8140 compliant certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+)
  • CISSP, CISM, or other advanced cybersecurity certifications
  • Experience with ServiceNow workflows and automation
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory / Entra ID
  • Experience creating dashboards in Microsoft Power BI
  • Familiarity with NIST frameworks and other compliance standards
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment
  • Commitment to staying up to date with emerging cybersecurity trends and tools

Compensation to include:

  • Salary Range: $140,000 - $145,000 depending on experience
  • Full Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, PTO, Sick Leave if Required by Law
